First of all, how are you and your Family doing in these COVID-19 Times?

Alena Afanaseva: We are just fine. Thank you for asking. Pretty tired of lockdown and the inability to travel, but we are happy that nobody among our friends and relatives actually caught this virus.

Tell us about you, your Career, and how you Founded or Joined Beincrypto.com

Alena Afanaseva: I have been in finance for more than 15 years while working as an editor, financial analyst, and analytical department head at different stages of my professional life. It was 2016 when I wrote the first Bitcoin analysis, that I became impressed by the simplicity and the beauty of the blockchain concept.

In 2017, the ICO hype came along and every big and small project was ready to pay anything to get exposed to their target audiences. Promotion from crypto news media was in high demand and, at the same time, there were very few crypto news outlets offering high-quality content while avoiding outright shilling shitcoins and scams.

That was when I realized the potential of crypto news media — not only from a business perspective but also from a mass adoption aspect. I believed that the industry needed a media outlet with a strict set of journalistic principles and ethics to provide readers with only the highest-quality content.

In 2018, I drew up a business plan, found investors, and built the first team of three key members — an editor-in-chief, SEO expert, and social media manager. We launched BeInCrypto in September 2018. A year and a half later, we have 2M users visiting our site on a monthly basis, published in 10 languages, and have 80+ employees from 17 countries.

How does Beincrypto.com Innovate?

Alena Afanaseva: That was the mission and the concept of BeInCrypto from the start — we all have a passion for injecting transparency and honesty into the cryptocurrency space. As such, we actively seek to identify disingenuous reporting, fishy ICOs, exit scams, and other non-transparent actions in a space meant to provide transparency.

We are also the only crypto news source with a ranking of crypto exchanges, a ranking of coins and tokens, and a huge Learn section covering everything one needs to know about the industry.

How the Coronavirus Pandemic affects your Business, and how are you coping?

Alena Afanaseva: Of course, it affected us and continues to affect us, even now. People were locked in their homes and unable to rest and restore some energy through traveling and social interactions.

During the first month of lockdown, I noticed that people talked less and reacted to questions more slowly than usual. Everybody was exhausted and depressed, so we started to support each other by sharing our workspace pictures, describing the situations in our localities, and shooting videos of the environment.

It helped a lot and now I can confirm that we have overcome this hard situation.

Did you have to make Difficult Choices, and what are the Lessons Learned?

Alena Afanaseva: Of course. Every day there are hundreds of options you may choose, directions you may follow, and people you may hire. Sometimes, you need to be motivating and supportive. Other times, you need to be tough.

I’m still learning how to motivate, communicate, and deal with our multicultural differences.

How do you deal with Stress and Anxiety? How do you Project yourself and Beincrypto.com in the Future?

Alena Afanaseva: We aim to become the top crypto news media in the world — without any doubt. It is just a matter of time. We have already made a great leap by entering the Top 4 crypto news websites in only one year, so there is so much more in store for us.

Who are your Competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the Game?

Alena Afanaseva: Our colleagues — not competitors — are CoinDesk and CoinTelegraph. As for our plans, we will keep focusing on giving value to our readers and producing high-quality content. This is the only way to survive in the current environment.
