Andrew Cox of Reactive Graphics Tells Us About Working in Web Design during the Pandemic

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Andrew Cox: We are doing okay. We are spending lots of time together with our new baby and having quiet weekends.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Reactive Graphics.
Andrew Cox: I began my career in web design and development in the late ’90s, and I noticed that all businesses, however large or small, need a website. I wanted to create a design agency that is dedicated to web design and brand identity creation. So I set up Reactive Graphics in 2004, and we now have over 16 years of working in web design supporting a wide range of clients.
How does Reactive Graphics innovate?
Andrew Cox: We are prepared to take calculated risks, which often requires some upfront investment. I believe the most successful characters in business are able to combine rigorous self-discipline with creative flair. It may sound like a contradiction, but I think you need both in order to succeed. We design web sites for companies and organizations in the London area. We re-design web sites that look tired and are in need of a refresh, or we build web sites from scratch, in which case we can also help shape the image of the business with the design of their brand identity. We also offer other graphic design services, but first and foremost, we are a digital agency.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Andrew Cox: Since the pandemic started, our team has been working remotely from home, so from that aspect, it has not really affected us. We are busy too. Many companies whose operations may have slowed down due to the lockdown have decided that now is a good time to invest in marketing and get their website in top shape when the economy springs back to life. Also, we notice that clients are embracing digital channels more and more, especially eCommerce platforms.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Andrew Cox: I had to make the choice of keeping our team working remotely, which seemed like the right decision to keep everyone safe and healthy.
How do you deal with stress and anxiety?
Andrew Cox: I am quite good at dealing with stress and anxiety because I actively work at creating a balance in my life. I enjoy the structure that works brings to life…to relax, exercise, and spend time with my young family.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Andrew Cox: Our competitors are other London web design and branding agencies. We have a track record of delivering web and graphic design projects to deadlines without compromising quality. We offer support & maintenance contracts for the web site designs we build. Many of our web design clients give us Google reviews…we have twenty-six 5 star reviews so far and counting!!
To stay in the game, we employ young staff who are brimming with ideas and enthusiasm, and we adopt a working culture where leaders are not afraid to be challenged.
