Live Stream has the Power to Make a Difference in the “New Normal” Scenario

We talked to Antonio Corrado, cofounder, and CEO at MainStreaming about its only service that helps people stream video with the best Quality of Experience to their audience and he had the following to say about it.

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?                        

Antonio Corrado: Luckily, we’re fine at the moment. We seem to manage the Covid-19 outbreak quite well, but like so many, we have been forced to make changes in our daily life, such as working remotely, purchasing online, and spending more time browsing on the internet. I think it is important to do our best to stay safe and, at the same time, to take the opportunity to embrace these changes as a chance to achieve a new set of skills.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded MainStreaming.

Antonio Corrado: I am one of the co-founders, together with Philippe Tripodi, CCO Product, and Giovanni Proscia, CTO. Let me briefly introduce myself and MainStreaming. 

After graduating in Computer Science, I worked for multinational ICT companies, and in 2000 I founded my own company, Mainsoft Group, where I worked as CEO until 2015. 

Here’s how MainStreaming’s adventure started. In 2009 I went to New York for the Holiday season. During the end-of-year concert, which was broadcasted live, the streaming went down for over 30 minutes. I was really surprised that streaming was still experiencing this type of disservice in that day and age. Back in Italy, I began to analyze, together with the CTO of my previous company, how technologies for online video distribution worked.

Many years went by, and streaming problems had still not been solved, so in 2015 we founded MainStreaming with the intent of revolutionizing the world of streaming distribution. 

How does MainStreaming innovate? 

Antonio Corrado: MainStreaming plays a critical role in providing agile and cutting-edge solutions to live streaming challenges. Our Intelligent Media Delivery Platform (iMDP) is the first platform invented to distribute online video in real-time. This is all possible thanks to our Smart Synapsis technology, capable of making real-time decisions based on a continuous flow of data of the viewers’ Quality of Experience. MainStreaming designed iMDP products to guarantee full governance of the streaming process with the Highest Quality of Service and the best ROI. 

Furthermore, our advanced API driven technology, powered by AI, can be integrated into existing workflows and provides a complete end-to-end solution.

How does the coronavirus pandemic affect your business, and how are you coping?

Antonio Corrado: In the first months of the pandemic, business slowed down for us, especially due to the cancelation of sporting events. Nevertheless, we carried on, closing deals, and improving our technology. As sporting events resumed, and content providers needed an outstanding service to deliver content to their viewers, that were spending more time in front of the computer, we had a boost in the number of closed deals.

Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?

Antonio Corrado: We had to rethink our strategy in terms of business and technology. The co-founders and I decided to focus on R&D, improving our platform, and introducing new features. This decision was crucial in the closing of deals in the second part of the year. The main lesson I learned is that to face situations of crisis and come out of it victorious. You need to be flexible and ready to constantly change strategy, adapting to the reality of uncertainty and coming up with creative ways to make the most of it.

How do you deal with stress and anxiety?

Antonio Corrado: Stress is a condition I’m able to mitigate through meditation, as it allows me to manage the pressure that we all live under today. With simple exercises, I’m able to stay calm, obtain clarity, and be more productive.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?

Antonio Corrado: Traditional online distribution services are based on legacy technology and “non Smart networks.” We introduced an Intelligent Media Delivery Platform (iMDP) that enables full management and control over the entire delivery process for content owners, gaming providers, and operators, with no more complex, uncontrolled, low latency workflows from legacy systems.

Antonio Corrado: Technology plays an important role in turning the business model of companies and in embracing the digital transformation of these challenging times, such as remote working, eCommerce, online entertainment, and live streaming.
