First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Bhaskar Metikel: At the outset, thanks for asking this question. With God’s grace, we all are safe and healthy. Albeit we are not taking this situation lightly and following all the government guidelines to keep ourselves healthy.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded VSPL.
Bhaskar Metikel: Soon after completing my Post Graduation from Australia, I returned to India to pursue a career in the financial market. However, my first adventure failed miserably, and I was compelled to do some odd jobs. At that time, I never thought to do the business again, but it seems like the Almighty had some other plans, and eventually, I founded Vindaloo VoIP Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (VSPL) in December 2016. We are into the service industry and offer Custom VoIP Application Development Services to all our clients.
At VSPL, we envisage building an excellent team of employees driven by brilliance, expertise, and integrity. We practice equality and give our employees equal opportunities to showcase their talent & skills to empower them and the organization towards exponential growth.
How does VSPL innovate?
Bhaskar Metikel: Well, Innovation is a continuous process, isn’t it? We have given a free hand to our Senior Management to Experiment, to think out of the box to get the solutions. We focus on skill enhancement by providing ample opportunities to our team members. We believe, in time, this will help us to grow together as a team. We will continue to invest in our resources to bring the best of them.
Simultaneously, we have formed a group of small teams to compete with each other. This strategy has helped us to find the leaders within the teams. Our ultimate goal is to convert an employee to an intrapreneur who can be a potential leader in the future.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Bhaskar Metikel: Honestly, it has affected us to some extent, with the way we operate and manage ourselves. The good thing is we did not lay off even a single employee due to business loss or the Pandemic. In fact, we are adding new members each month, and the trend continues till now.
We have constantly been focusing on providing the utmost services to our clients as we do understand that we all are on the same boat and can not afford any misadventure.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Bhaskar Metikel: The COVID 19 situation has given us an opportunity to distinguish between good, better, and excellent employees. Based on the results, we did some reshufflings in the team. I would say that is the only difficult choice we had to make.
We learnt that the organizational policies need to be amended, and we successfully introduced a few policies for our employees to balance the work-life culture.
How do you deal with stress and anxiety?
Bhaskar Metikel: Let’s accept it; it’s a part of life. Whether you are an entrepreneur or not, these evils will follow you. It all depends on how we tackle the particular situation. There is a famous Chinese proverb, “If your problem has a solution, why worry about it? If your problem does not have a solution, why worry about it?”.
I have cultivated a habit of spending more time with your loved ones to deal with stress and anxiety. The more we worry about stress and anxiety, the more it dominates us. It is rather better to enjoy yourself with your family and friends. And of course, Read Books.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Bhaskar Metikel: There is plenty of competition amongst all the service providers. We strive to capitalize on what we can do best for all our clients across the globe. Our core strength lies in excellent customer services; our research-based solutions help us stay on top of completion. This approach has enabled us to add new projects to our portfolios. We are available 24×7 for all kinds of emergencies for our clients; our client-centric approach endeavors us to be in the game.
Your final thoughts?
Bhaskar Metikel: “Tough time never lasts but tough people do.” The entire world is going through a very, very difficult time. I believe we have a brighter future ahead, not only for our company but also for humanity. Let’s pray; the sooner, the better.
