We talked to Blaženka Golub of Blistavi dom about cleaning services, and she had the following to say:-
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Blaženka Golub: Thank you for your kind question. We are all doing well. Every member of my family is healthy, so we did not need to fight against COVID-19 in our home. But we are struggling in our everyday cleaning. Some of our clients tested positive, so we had to postpone our cleaning service in their homes. Also, every day our employees clean medical facilities that are responsible for testing people against this horrible virus in the Zadar region in Croatia. We are trying to protect ourselves and all our clients while cleaning, and by now, we are doing great!
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Blistavi dom.
Blaženka Golub: I founded this company in 2015. The company was the result of my hard work and joy in everyday cleaning. I really love to clean, so I thought, how can I unite business success and pleasure. I told myself, why not?! I am capable and organized; I am sure that I will be able to clean great other facilities except for my home, too. I guess that I was right 5 years ago because now I have a very successful company with satisfied employees and clients. I still have a lot of work to do, but we are going in the right direction.
How does Blistavi dom innovate?
Blaženka Golub: We are using modern applications to organize everyday cleaning schedules for time tracking, equipment tracking, employee tracking. We know the location of our employees every minute while they are working. Also, we are working on our own cleaning products and equipment. We are chatting with our clients; we share great ideas on our blog. Every month we have a paid meeting where we discuss current topics with our employees.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Blaženka Golub: Coronavirus pandemic seriously endangered our business in April and May. We still have business growth but not that great as it should be this year. Here in Croatia, we all depend on the success of the touristic season from June to September. Hopefully, the season was great; we had a lot of guests this season too. But everything was out of function in April and May, so we were worried about what to do in case of a bad summer season. The good thing is that we do not depend only on touristic objects. We are cleaning business facilities and private facilities. Because of that, the coronavirus crisis did not cause us colossal harm.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Blaženka Golub: The difficult choices were to do with our employees. In the bad period from March to May, we did not know what to do; should we stop hiring new employees because we could not predict the success of the touristic season. We learned at that time that firing and not hiring new employees was not an option. Great employees are like gold, it is hard to find them, but it is very easy to lose them. We made our efforts to be there for them and to save all their jobs. The risk paid off because we had plenty of work this summer, and employees stayed with us.
How do you deal with stress and anxiety?
Blaženka Golub: We try not to think bad and not to predict bad income. We are working hard and waiting for this crisis to pass. Everything stops eventually, so we try to cheer up our employees. Spending more time with our family keeps the stress away.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Blaženka Golub: Our competitors are companies in the Zadar region. We plan to stay in the game with our innovations that really make a difference. We do not have the same competition in every cleaning field. Other cleaning companies do not clean business/private/touristic facilities as we do. They are good at one or two types of cleaning, but none of them is working great in every field as our company does. This is our difference and strength, and we are very proud to be the first and the best cleaning company in our region.
Your final thoughts?
Blaženka Golub: As a cleaning company, we really want to show people the importance of everyday cleaning, especially in their homes. We are now living with the coronavirus pandemic, so we clean more and better than ever before. Do not stop with this when corona finally stops. A clean home is a safe area, so make sure that you do your best to protect your family’s health. You can do it with the help of some cleaning service or on your own. Good luck! We wish you a shiny home, as the name of our company in Croatian language saes.
