First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Carlyle DELIGNY: Hi, very well! Indeed, I am based in Taiwan, and it’s been more than 200 days since we hadn’t had Covid-19 local cases. Thanks to the Taiwanese government effort, we didn’t have to lock down, and our lives hadn’t varied a lot since last year. However, I have family in France, and I’m quite concerned about the situation there.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded iWavenology.
Carlyle DELIGNY: I joined iWavenology last year, in September 2019. I participated in Vivatech, a well-known Technology event in Paris, and I met the founder of iWavenology, Professor Shau-gang Mao. He was introducing Taiwan’s booth, their most recent innovation, and products. I was really impressed by their cutting-edge products, and, after completing my master’s degree in International affairs, he hired me a few days later. Before that, I studied Business Management and Chinese in China for several years, and I really wanted to challenge myself by working in Taiwan.
Moreover, the Taiwan semiconductor ecosystem is well known, and I was glad to take this opportunity to discover it. I am the Chief Business Development Officer of iWavenology. That means that I am in charge of our clients, business strategies, and communication and marketing strategies.
Who are the iWavenology founder and team?
Carlyle DELIGNY: iWavenology was founded by Professor Shau-Gang Mao of National Taiwan University. He is an expert in the areas of wireless communication and signal processing. Working on Wireless communication systems for more than 30 years, he grasped the importance of the Internet of Things evolution and developed new ways of tracking and locating.
Its world-class scientists, engineers, and creators have a passion for staying at the forefront of technological innovation. Today, we are a team of 20 engineers working relentlessly to provide cutting-edge products.
iWavenology is specialized in UWB and IoT. From detecting drones to high-precision indoor locating systems, we aim to make operational performance improvements by eliminating time-wasting thanks to a complete end-to-end solution. iWavenology teamwork has been recognized in the Macronix Golden Silicon Awards, the Texas Instruments Innovation Challenge, and the Innovative Electromagnetism Challenge.
How does your company help companies during COVID-19?
Carlyle DELIGNY: Lately, we have released a social distancing solution to support companies to protect their employees against COVID-19.
COVID-19 requires us to think about innovative solutions to ensure safety for all employees returning to the workplace. At a time where we should give the first priority to health worldwide, we must think about a solution that can ensure safety while working. That is why iWavenology created a simple device that generates an alarm whenever a person comes too close to another: iDistance. iDistance is a wearable product that helps companies stop the spreading of Covid-19. Adopting UWB technology, it can process up to 50 users simultaneously within 1 second.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Carlyle DELIGNY: I think the most challenging part for us is the impossibility of meeting potential clients and partners. We participated in CES 2020 in January in Las Vegas, right before the pandemic began. It was an amazing moment where we connected with a lot of people, customers, and partners. Being only able to see each other through virtual events is still a good option but less effective than having human interactions. Having Startut.info interviews us can really help us reach companies that would need our solutions to thrive.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Carlyle DELIGNY: Depending on the product, we have some competitors. However, UWB technology is still underused, and most of our products are completely new on the market.
