Charles Lamdin is using BestAgent in his mission to prove it’s possible to end homelessness

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?

Charles Lamdin: Covid has, of course, been a difficult time for so many of us, but we are lucky enough to be based in Devon, so we have really benefited from country living and making the most of the great outdoors and everything on our doorstep. Spending time with my young children and working from home is something that I’m very grateful for.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded BestAgent.

Charles Lamdin: I’ve had a colorful working life so far. I started washing cars in London when I was 18 and then landed a job in the stock market. After that, I started a company selling photographs and floor plans to estate agents. I remember thinking back then there has to be an easier way to sell houses. I naively thought it could be done ‘online’ just like everything else, but I learnt 20 years ago it cannot. Since then, I have in one way or another been working on a better home moving experience for both consumers and estate agents, which has led me to found BestAgent.

How does BestAgent innovate?

Charles Lamdin: Our tech and services were already built before Covid-19, but they have proved more valuable than ever as more agents work from home and viewings are done via video, and people are more comfortable and confident using video before they make a journey or go to a meeting. The flexibility and versatility of BestAgent is allowing agents and movers to work in a way that suits them best and saves time and money.

Our innovation means that consumers not only have all the properties in one place to view and book viewings directly online with those agents. But we have also used our innovation to make it easier for consumers to find and meet the best agent for them to sell or let their home. It is important that people understand we are in no way trying to replace anything that agents do. We are simply making it easier and safer for agents and movers to find each other and the same for properties.

Do you think your business can make a real difference to its users?

Charles Lamdin: Absolutely. The goal of BestAgent is to bring the improvement to the home moving process that the internet brought to everything else. BestAgent is here to make it easier to find your home, find your agent, and end homelessness.

Your final thoughts?

Charles Lamdin: I believe that as a provider in helping people find a home or estate agent that this should be inclusive of all people in need of a home. BestAgent not only plans to use its resources to help end homelessness but intends to lead the way for other businesses in the property sector to do the same, as this is our responsibility as a business in the property industry. Hence our vision ‘a home for everyone’.
