Chris Lin the Co-founder of Slrlounge says a High Level of Skill and Creativity will always be in Demand, Regardless of how the Economy is doing

First of all, how are you and your Family doing in these COVID-19 Times?
Chris Lin : The pandemic has certainly presented many challenges for the family, but we are all doing well, staying positive and counting our blessings.
Tell us about you, your Career, how you Founded or Joined Slrlounge
Chris Lin : In 2008, my brother, Justin Lin, our best friend, Pye Jirsa, and I quit our corporate jobs and started a wedding photography studio called Lin and Jirsa Photography. As we grew our business, we started bringing on additional staff, who needed training to learn our style. Rather than train each employee from scratch, we created a library of videos and articles. We then decided to make these available to the public for free on a separate website called slrlounge.com. Since then, we’ve worked with an incredible team of international photographers and writers to provide real world photography education, news and other resources.
How does Slrlounge Innovate?
Chris Lin : In our education, we provide up-to-date and relevant information for our community. Our educational frameworks incorporate the latest technologies and trends to ensure that our students are prepared for real world success. While much of our education is evergreen and based on time-tested theory, we also come up with innovative strategies and new photographic and photo editing styles to teach to our community. For example, we invented a new way of closing sales meetings for photographers called the Wall Art Vision Exercise (WAVE). We also invented Lighting Condition Based Lightroom Presets for faster and more accurate photo editing.
How the Coronavirus Pandemic affects your Business and how are you Coping?
Chris Lin : The coronavirus pandemic has put a strain on many members of the photography community, including our many Premium Members and Workshop Purchasers. In response, we decreased our pricing for recurring membership renewals and new memberships by over 30% to help ease the financial burden. The community has been appreciative and has continued to support us throughout this difficult time. We continue to believe that, unlike investments like the stock market and real estate, investing in knowledge and acquiring new skills will always have a positive return. A high level of skill and creativity will always be in demand, regardless of how the economy is doing. Our members seem to believe that as well, as evidenced by the steady demand for our education.
Did you have to make Difficult Choices and what are the Lessons Learned?
Chris Lin : Yes we have to work through many difficult choices each and every day. The main lessons I’ve learned is the importance of sticking together as a team and working through issues step by step in order to not feel overwhelmed.
How do you deal with Stress and Anxiety, how do you Project yourself and Slrlounge in the Future?
Chris Lin : To deal with stress and anxiety, we as a company have a culture of fitness and exercise. We try to keep each other motivated with fun fitness challenges and group activities that involve physical activity like biking, hiking, and HIT training (when they are open).
The future of slrlounge.com is to continue to provide high quality education and resources for real world success. The topics and frameworks of our education will continue to change with our changing times, but our focus will always be on teaching photographers how to succeed.
Who are your Competitors? And how do you Plan to Stay in the Game?
Chris Lin : Our competitors are actually our friends as well. They are sites like Fstoppers and CreativeLive. We plan to stay in the game by focusing on comprehensive A-Z frameworks and speaking directly to the needs of our community. We strongly believe that if we take care of our core customers, they will continue to take care of us.
Your Final Thoughts
Chris Lin : Thank you for this opportunity. We wish you the best of luck and health!
