Cristian Maria on How to Highlight Unique Abilities With a Creative Resume
We talked to Cristian Maria, founder of Reedact, about building professional resumes and this is what he said about it.
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Cristian Maria: We are established in Romania and working from home ever since the pandemic started. It’s not easy, we miss the social interactions with our colleagues, but we are looking forward to the end of this period, now with the vaccine being made available in our country. Keeping a positive mindset is the key!
Tell us about you, your career, and how you founded Reedact.
Cristian Maria: I have extensive experience in the field of Finance, Marketing and lately Recruitment & Training. Being part of large organizations from the first day of my professional career, I had the opportunity to see with my own eyes that candidates have a serious problem with how they present their professional background. This was the catalyzer to build reedact.com because we want to help candidates become more than a resume in front of decision-makers. Our WHY is focused around the candidate and what she or he has to offer, eliminating the words that just sound good and helping them present their entire career history in a concise and user-friendly manner.
How does Reedact innovate?
Cristian Maria: In a nutshell, my company, Reedact, is building a razor-sharp resume, to help candidates stand out and gain extra seconds of attention, using an original design and better-structured information, in a single page format.
At the same time, we are helping recruiters because providing only the information that matters makes good use of their time and ensures the resume gets their full attention – not just a cursory glance.
How does the coronavirus pandemic affect your business finances?
Cristian Maria: At the moment we can’t say we are impacted because we are offering a digital product and we’ve just launched our website (reedact.com). All our campaigns are performed online and we are seeing very positive results but in the long run, I think everyone will be impacted one way or another.
Did you have to make difficult choices regarding human resources and what are the lessons learned?
Cristian Maria: Luckily no, because we didn’t have to hire anybody in 2020 since we were really at our early stages with the project. Our team is composed of myself as founder, four collaborators, and three advisors, each having strategic positions within the project.
How did your customer relationship management evolve? Do you use any specific tools to be efficient?
Cristian Maria: We focused all our campaigns online and we were quite successful at doing that, especially in the first phase of our project when we validated our MVP (received close to 600 feedback inputs on our website). We used our website as a tool, built-in WordPress but besides that, no other specific tools were necessary.
Did you benefit from any government grants, and did that help keep your business afloat?
Cristian Maria: The project being so young, we didn’t have the chance to apply for any government grants but it’s something that we are considering going forward with. At the moment the project is bootstrapped but we have some good opportunities of raising some capital in the future, through VCs and angel investors. We’ve also graduated from one of the biggest start-up accelerators in Romania (Founder Institute) in June 2020.
Your final thoughts?
Cristian Maria: Thank you for this opportunity, think of the solution and not the problem, that’s what I always use to say. Difficulties appear at any given point in time but with the appropriate mindset, any obstacle can be overcome, including the coronavirus pandemic.
