David Cruz the Founder and CEO at Koibox shares with us how Technology is shaping the hairdressers and beauty sector

First of all, how are you and your Family doing in these COVID-19 Times? 

David Cruz: We’re very well. It has been hard to go from everyday life to confinement and teleworking. It isn’t easy with children involved, but we have become used to it.

Tell us about you, your Career, how you founded Koibox

David Cruz: In 2014, I was managing and coordinating teams for a CRM project for a multinational company, Bertelsmann, when I met my current business partner. We identified a real need in the world of beauty. These professionals didn’t have an online tool that covered different areas in this sector, and, from that moment, we began to work on the project and founded Koibox to address those needs.

How does Koibox innovate? 

David Cruz: We developed an Online Management System specializing in the beauty and salon sector. It automates and simplifies the main management tasks of hairdressers and beauty salons. We have also incorporated a CRM with online and offline marketing tools that help them to attract and retain loyal clients. Further, we provide salons with functionalities that increase the visibility of businesses on the internet so that they can improve their sales.

How the Coronavirus Pandemic affects your Business, and how are you coping?

David Cruz: During the confinement, our clients closed their businesses, but we were by their side, taking advantage of this break in their work to learn more about Koibox tools and help them get the most out of it.

To survive this time, our team adopted teleworking, we opted to cut on spending as much as possible, requested financing from our banks, and optimized our processes.

Although some of our clients had temporarily unsubscribed, they resumed when the situation began to normalize. However, we incurred some loss due to business that closed as a result of the pandemic. Thus COVID has disrupted our growth plans, slowed us down, but didn’t stop us.

Did you have to make Difficult Choices, and what are the Lessons Learned?

David Cruz: We didn’t have hard decisions to make; however, we have learned how to work and face adversity. We have an exceptional team behind Koibox, and our system supports our clients to improve their business.

How do you deal with Stress and Anxiety? How do you project yourself and Koibox in the Future?

David Cruz: Sport and my family are key ways of coping with stress and anxiety. My future is connected to that of Koibox. Koibox is going to become a benchmark within the sector.

Who are your Competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the Game?

David Cruz: Currently, our competitors are Bewe, Floww, Booksy, and Dunasoft. We are presently focusing on the Spanish market, where we are the market leader. We are already in 21 countries, and our goal is to continue conquering other markets. Therefore, we don’t rule out any M&A operation.

David Cruz: The COVID has caused today’s world to rethink the way to deal with everything, and in our sector, it has raised awareness on the importance of technology. Although It has been a hard blow, it can help us face the future with a new vision.
