David Rodríguez of Webimpacto tells how the eCommerce agency helps to grow business.

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?

David Rodríguez: I am fine. At this moment it is very difficult but thank god my family is very good and healthy.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Webimpacto.

David Rodríguez: I founded Webimpacto in 2009. I quit my job the day after I signed my house mortgage! I started alone working from my house cellar (Yes, plenty of wine everywhere to focus on eCommerce). And now we have more than 100 employees, 150 customers, and a presence in more than 5 countries.

How does Webimpacto innovate?

David Rodríguez: We have to keep innovating on a daily basis. In the last 2 years, we have incorporated to our services APP (Tech & Marketing Services), Marketplace services, Marketing Automation solutions, Customer Care Services, and Backoffice Logistic software to improve our eCommerce customer experiences. So, we have moved from a Dev company in 2010 to a 360º eCommerce Agency,

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business and how are you coping?

David Rodríguez: We are working 100% remotely and we incremented our turnover and employees by around 20-25%. We have added a lot more services since March and we have started to hire employees from anywhere in the world. This is providing a huge step forward to have the ability to grow up faster.

Did you have to make difficult choices and what are the lessons learned?

David Rodríguez: In the second week of March I received calls from a lot of customers and cutting services for 100K / month. So, March was so difficult because I was losing customers and I realized that if I kept all the employees I would lose around 300-400K this year. I was able to keep calm and keep all the employees and assume the big loss that we went to have. The reality was totally different, the first week of April all our customers wanted to massively increase the services so from them basically we have been overloaded and in a big run hiring more employees.

So, I felt very happy to see how we manage that situation.

What specific tools, software, and management skills are you using to navigate this crisis?

David Rodríguez: We always have been using all the collaborative tools to manage remote employees (Jira, Teams, Google, Skype, GitHub). So, for us, it was not difficult to move from office to home.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?

David Rodríguez: We help our customers basically in every area related to eCommerce. We have so many competitors in each area (there are very good dev companies or very good Marketing companies). However, there are not many offering full eCommerce experiences as we do.

Your final thoughts?

David Rodríguez: eCommerce has done a huge step forward in 2020 and all the retailers are betting so hard for that. We moved forward around 5 years in just one. So, the investment in eCommerce and digital will keep growing massively in 2021 and 2022.
