We talked to David Yakov of Cawamo on how to use AI-based real-time analytics technology to help people maintain their everyday lives as safely as possible during the COVID-19 pandemic and this is what he had to say.
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
David Yakov: The pandemic has been brutal for us, l but we have learned to be grateful for what we have and look at the positives. I am proud to be in a business where I can help others. I have learned to focus on that aspect and be inspired to achieve even more extraordinary accomplishments in this situation.
How does Cawamo innovate?
David Yakov: Cawamo’s team of professionals has successfully developed a platform that addresses numerous security and safety scenarios for all size businesses, residentials, and governments. Our platform uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) and deep machine learning technologies to provide the BEST cost/performance video analytics on the market.
Our system connects to ANY security camera and transforms it into a “smart, virtual human-like guard,” generating high-quality and virtually zero false alerts. We have developed the most straightforward installation with virtually no maintenance and consistent updates and new features. Since our technology applies to any existing security camera or monitoring system, this eliminates the need to install high-cost equipment on-site, resulting in the best cost/performance solution in the market!
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
David Yakov: The pandemic forced our company to work harder and faster than ever once we decided to develop new services on our platform to help with the new social distancing guidelines, in addition to our on-going projects. During this time, we shifted our focus on developing applications to help combat the virus’s spread according to CDC recommendations- including social distancing, wearing face-masks, and avoiding over-crowded locations.
These solutions are now being used worldwide by governments, municipalities, and commercial entities. Our technology has been beneficial and convenient because it has been applied to existing security cameras and monitoring systems, eliminating the need to install high-cost equipment.
These new applications include; crowd detection, which helps detect in real-time people gathering in groups in public areas both indoor and outdoor settings. Our system can also detect, in real-time, a few individuals not wearing medical masks and allows authorities to send vocal (voice alert) warnings to the gathering crowd and issue alerts to the relevant authorities and individuals.
Cawamo’s powerful processing capabilities support in real-time the particular application of counting the number of people entering and leaving a premise and raise alerts to authorities when capacity reaches. This application performs “site counting,” simultaneously detecting and collecting inputs from multiple entrances/exits indoors and outdoor environments.
Due to the way we have built our AI platform, we could introduce these new services to the market quickly ( 2-3 months of development). Our platform is ready now for new challenges that will come soon.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
David Yakov: Once the pandemic hit, this caused us to set aside some of the existing projects we were working on and shift immediate focus on how our company can help with the pandemic. We quickly developed applications such as crowd detection, face mask detection, and people (site) counting.
These applications have been very successful, although we may not have a use for them in the future when the pandemic is gone; however, we are grateful we can use our technology to help society. We realize how important it is to act promptly to an immediate need and innovate no matter the company’s current focus.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
David Yakov: We have competitors in the industry, but one thing that makes us different is our ability to quickly create new applications quickly and offer the BEST cost/performance solution in the market. We consistently upgrade and improve our platform with new features regularly- almost monthly. Our system is continuously improving and becoming more accurate with crowdsourced inputs, which helps make our AI smarter and our platform even more efficient.
Your final thoughts?
David Yakov: As with everything in life, we might face unexpected challenges. Building a firm basis (in our case, – a robust, flexible, and scalable AI platform) might make it easier to overcome such periods and move forward to success. At Cawamo, we have a talented, hardworking, experienced team that created a platform that serves many clients globally and is ready to serve anyone who would like to upgrade their security by turning their existing or new security cameras into a smart, virtual guard.
