We talked to Dimitris Drandakis of Mediastalker about media security solutions, and he had the following to say:-

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?

Dimitris Drandakis: We are staying at home as much as possible and try to avoid exposing ourselves to risky situations that might affect our families and our team. The good health of our beloved ones and our team is always our top priority. During this pandemic, I found some time to see things from a distance and plan crucial adjustments on the technology side of our business.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Mediastalker.

Dimitris Drandakis: I worked as a software engineer in Athens – Greece, after graduating from the university, having participated in significant innovative projects in the 2000s and worked for highly esteemed organizations. In the late previous decade, I moved to an Ionian Sea island. There I switched to the tourism industry, which turned out to be a wise decision since the economic crisis shortly after hit my country hard, and tourism was one of the few untouched industries. A few years later, some friends of mine asked for my assistance on one of their company’s side projects.

The fire for coding still burned inside me, so it was a very easy decision to join them. Two years later, this small side project turned into mediastalker, and the rest is history in the making.

How does Mediastalker innovate?

Dimitris Drandakis: In a nutshell, we at mediastalker have developed a state-of-the-art AI/MLpowered software platform that provides copyright protection services to media creators, copyright owners, distributors on video-sharing platforms, social media, and streaming websites. We are using cutting-edge technology and a unique business model. Our focus is to provide our customers with an excellent service experience, transparency, and a high-class value proposition.

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?

Dimitris Drandakis: Well, we faced both sides of the coin. During the first wave of the pandemic, there was a kind of confusion from the media companies on how to best exploit their content. The initial numbness and different strategies used affected us by putting new partnerships on hold and stress-testing the existing ones.

Nevertheless, the need was there. People stayed at home, and the demand for media content consumption increased, so the providers had to secure their monetization schemes in order to continue creating and providing to stay afloat.

The summer found everyone preparing for a predicted second wave, and now media content protection is hotter than ever. The market has grown with more content owners entering the live streaming era, and we are here to fulfil their needs.

Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?

Dimitris Drandakis: I had to make difficult choices but not in a ‘life and death’ meaning. I mean, thank God I didn’t face the need to fire people; instead, we realized that we need more experts in different critical business units.

The core lessons I’ve learned on a personal note is that maintaining your physical and spiritual health is by far the most important thing in life. Business-wise, I would say be positive, think twice, and never stay idle.

How do you deal with stress and anxiety?

Dimitris Drandakis: I am coding like crazy. Indeed! Beyond that, as I said before, I am lucky to live on a beautiful island, and this alone reduces a tremendous amount of stress and anxiety. Family time is my best stress-killer, and my walking hour on the beach with my dog Cheddar is the way to clean-up my head from all the many things I have to deal with as the CTO of a fast-growing company. I also discovered pilates last year and found it is great for my balance, while I never stopped blasting some metal music in my ears.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?

Dimitris Drandakis: We have competitors of all sizes and styles from all over the world. We are the most cutting-edge and effective in what we do, namely in the digital protection of intellectual property (IP) in the media space. I also believe that we provide the overall best experience out there for our clients. We are gaining market share, growing and expanding, and our plug n’ play solution is being recognized as the ‘hard to believe until you see’ item of our sector. We are the media content protection benchmark. We are always upgrading our services and exploring new domains so as not only to stay in the game but also to become the undisputed leaders of our space.

Your final thoughts?

Dimitris Drandakis: The out of the blue pandemic outbreak reordered our living and working habits. Technology and sciences are at the highest level of all times, and the digital evolution and revolution are accelerating at a breakneck speed. Plenty of beliefs and structures are changing because of the pandemic, and many things will continue to change in the coming months and years. Evolve along or watch your business ruined. For our part, we want to constantly adapt and improve our technology at mediastalker.ai to be prepared, whatever comes.
