Gurusiksha Team

We talked to Dipak Jha of Gurusiksha about online tuition classes and here is what he said about it.

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?

Dipak Jha: Thanks for asking; we are great! We spent some quality time during the lockdown. Now, we are happy to be back in the office.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Gurusiksha.

Dipak Jha: I completed my b.tech from the electronics and communication department from Delhi and Later worked with few companies. In late 2016 I thought of starting an online live tutoring company in Kolkata. Before launching Gurusiksha, I didn’t know how to run a business, which led me to shut down my company in early 2018. But in late 2018, I thought of starting a business again, which entailed home tuition in Kolkata city in India. After running the home tuition model in Kolkata successfully, we expanded our home tuition business to 8 more cities in India and online tuition to entire India. Just after the expansion at the start of 2020, within 3 months, we faced a lockdown, but our most energetic employees worked hard from our home to our survival, and just after lockdown, we started operating from our office again. Now we are running Gurusiksha successfully.

How does Gurusiksha innovate?

Dipak Jha: In this challenging time of COVID-19, students have been facing trouble finding tutors as they can’t get out of their homes, nor can their parents. This is where Gurusiksha comes in as a bridge between students and teachers.

We are a new company and are growing every passing day. It’s not that we have not faced any difficult situations, but with the efforts and determination of our employees, we have overcome all our difficulties and are developing at the same time.

How does the coronavirus pandemic affect your business finances?

Dipak Jha: Frankly speaking, like many companies all over the world, we have also faced some problems during COVID time. But with the problem-solving capabilities of our employees in difficult situations, we have overcome all of our obstacles.

We have switched to the remote working model and found a new way to continue our work without interruptions during the days of the COVID outbreak.

Did you have to make difficult choices regarding human resources, and what are the lessons learned?

Dipak Jha: Well, we all have to make harsh decisions at some point and especially when you are running a business. Yes, I have taken one or two major decisions regarding human resources to better the company keeping in mind the benefits at a later stage.

How did your customer relationship management evolve? Do you use any specific tools to be efficient?

Dipak Jha: We have a separate team that works on this specific role. Everyone in this team takes care of our customers’ problems by communicating one-to-one with them. And the most important thing that we have achieved by building a strong customer relationship is that we increase our users’ loyalty. We link new users with old customers who have benefited from us.

Did you benefit from any government grants, and did that help keep your business afloat?

Dipak Jha: No, we didn’t receive any government funds.

Your final thoughts?

Dipak Jha: Despite all the hurdles that I have faced till now, I would like to say to all the people who are trying to achieve something more, never stop believing in yourself till the last hurdle is crossed.
