We talked to Eric Cohen of RENEW Gallery about luxury lighting and fine antiques. He had the following to say about it.
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Eric Cohen: We are doing fine. Everyone is healthy, but we have less gathering and dinner together. We are all trying to be careful and responsible for the loved ones surrounding us. We can’t wait to get together more when COVID-19 is over.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded RENEW Gallery.
Eric Cohen: I am an antique lighting and fine art specialist and owner of the Renew Gallery – Period Lighting & Decorative Arts, an evolution of the much-beloved antique and heritage restoration business Vancouver Architectural Antiques Ltd. For nearly forty years, I have been building an exceptional inventory and worked hand-in-hand with custom home builders, interior designers, and sophisticated homeowners to find elegant and extraordinary antique lights and decorative architectural pieces for their projects and homes.
How does RENEW Gallery innovate?
Eric Cohen: We always look after our customers, sell good quality and unique lighting at good prices.
Our gallery features a huge and diverse collection of 19th and 20th-century lighting and home décor and can easily be shopped from your home or office. Specializing in turn of the century lighting and fine antiques, the current showroom is an evolution of a collection that has been in process for nearly forty years. With a worldwide client base, we help put the finishing touch on any space from Georgian houses to modern condos. We have a collection you simply won’t find anywhere else.
So whether you bring a traditional historic home back to its original condition or add a touch of history to a contemporary interior design project, our antique collection is your collection, providing you or your clients the perfect finishing touches for any project.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Eric Cohen: Coronavirus pandemic hasn’t affected our business too much. We got less traffic and in-person customers; however, our focus is more online these days as we sell our items on the online auction.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Eric Cohen: No difficult choices.
How do you deal with stress and anxiety, how do you project yourself and RENEW Gallery in the future?
Eric Cohen: I meditated, tried to do lots of walking and exercises. I will probably retire in the next year.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Eric Cohen: We have no competitors as no one has what we have in North America. Our collection of beautiful lightings are all ready to hang in your home, venues, and so on.
Your final thoughts?
Eric Cohen: We have to solider on, stay happy, and move on to the future. Do not let Covid 19 affect us too much.
