Eva Berg-Winters of Bewica Tells Us About the Award-winning Platform for Simple Cyber Security

We talked to Eva Berg-Winters, Co-founder & CEO of Bewica on how they make cyber security for businesses simple and here is what she said about it.
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Eva Berg-Winters: Of course, it is not an easy time, but we are doing OK as a family. I can’t wait for schools to reopen, though! The same is mirrored on the business side for Bewica: we are doing OK, on a good trajectory, and extremely excited about the future.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Bewica.
Eva Berg-Winters: I’ve dreamt about starting a company since I was a teenager. I came close a few times throughout my career and finally made the plunge with Bewica. Exciting!
How does Bewica innovate?
Eva Berg-Winters: Step by step. Our mission is to make cybersecurity simple for businesses and schools. This means that not only do we have to constantly adapt to new risks and technologies, but also (and more importantly) continually strive to make this complex topic digestible for organizations.
How does the coronavirus pandemic affect your business finances?
Eva Berg-Winters: The pandemic has fueled cybercrime and thus the need for cyber solutions. However, this is tampered with the financial pressures that small businesses face as a result of Covid-19 and Brexit.
Did you have to make difficult choices regarding human resources, and what are the lessons learned?
Eva Berg-Winters: Fortunately not. We have been able to grow our team and are quite comfortable with remote working. The Bewica team comprises amazing people who continued to support each other and work together in this changing environment. I’m super grateful to all of them.
How did your customer relationship management evolve? Do you use any specific tools to be efficient?
Eva Berg-Winters: We are talking to more customers proactively as we learn so much this way. There is no specific outstanding tool; we are using various ones. We like to remain flexible in all that we are doing so we can continue to adapt.
Did you benefit from any government grants, and did that help keep your business afloat?
Eva Berg-Winters: We received additional funding from Innovate UK for a project we had been working on. It is great to see the government making such investments in innovative projects. It certainly helps UK startups better position themselves for a post-Covid world.
Your final thoughts?
Eva Berg-Winters: I’m excited about spring. This has been a bleak winter for all of us, with each day a Blursday. I can’t wait for us to emerge full of energy, some of which we hope will be spent by small businesses on being more cyber secure.
