We talked to Federico Bausone, CEO at Multimedia Care on how the startup delivers an integrated, one-stop solution with its Health Checkpoint and he had the following to say about it.
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Federico Bausone: Thank you for asking! We are doing okay, all things considered. Working from home was not for me, and I am fortunate to be one of the few people at Multimedia who goes to the office every day. At the beginning of the Pandemic, we sent our tech teams to enhance everyone’s internet, as well as to make sure they had office chairs to be as comfortable as possible. My kids have started to get accustomed to doing “virtual learning.” It is not the same, but we’re making it work.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Multimedia Care.
Federico Bausone: I’m the CEO of Multimedia Care, leading and overseeing company-wide global operations. I’ve been in business for 37 years. That’s a long time. I am a multi-lingual global citizen. My professional career has been focused on creating value through disruptive innovations, which is where my company, Multimedia Care, comes into play.
I like to say that Multimedia Care is a 32-year startup. It is a product of the umbrella organization Multimedia, a company that has been integrating technology for 32 years.
The pandemic brought on an era of enhanced innovation. Security cameras now can see if people are wearing a mask, as well as if people are social distancing. With so many recent changes, our team at Multimedia Care decided to diversify our products to fully capture the market’s needs.
How does Multimedia Care innovate?
Federico Bausone: Our products showcase our innovation. The Health Checkpoint can be customized depending on the individual company’s needs, but each product spotlights five key capabilities, reinforcing customer safety and security upon entrance to any given facility. Such capabilities include:
- Mask Verification: Ensures each customer is properly equipped with a mask.
- Temperature Reading: A built-in, high-precision contactless temperature scanner privately alerts the individual if the said temperature is at or above 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Hand Sanitizer: Uses a contactless hand sanitizer dispenser to dispense gel.
- Shoe Mat: Uses a sanitizing mat to clean the bottom of the guest’s shoes prior to entrance.
- Digital Capabilities: A protective digital direction tool, the Health Checkpoint spotlights digital signage displays via customizable QR codes to complete a fully touchless user experience.
How has the coronavirus pandemic affected your business, and how are you coping?
Federico Bausone: The Health Checkpoint was actually created with the COVID-19 global Pandemic at the top of mind. Something that we’ve all learned throughout this transformative year is that wellness validation has become a key component of the new normal – and this is not something that is just going to go away any time soon. People want to feel comfortable, confident, safe, and secure when entering any given venue, and technology is part of this equation. Our product allows companies to easily scan for overall wellness, allowing guests to interact virtually, feeling confident that anyone who enters any given facility has been equally health-screened.
Throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic, our amazing team of designers have remained one step ahead of the curve, frequently modifying our products to deliver the best customer experience while keeping up with the digital landscape.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Federico Bausone: Running a business is all about choices. Some are more difficult than others. This year, we had to let go of some of our team because in some areas, with closed corporations, our work fell more than 80%. The hardest choice is always choosing who has to go. That is something that will never get any easier.
How do you deal with stress and anxiety?
Federico Bausone: I don’t really notice when I am stressing, but my teammates say that when I am under pressure, I often make much quicker decisions.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Federico Bausone: The digital wellness industry is full of new products, new companies, and new innovations. It’s really incredible how the industry came together to develop essential solutions to keep people healthy and engaged. For example, Nokia recently developed a COVID-19 detection system to scan for temperatures and masks, and other companies have followed suit.
Competition is key – it is how we continue to improve, developing new solutions, and staying relevant in the long-run. We plan to continue to stay a few steps ahead of the curve, modifying our products while putting innovation and ease at the forefront. We understand that no two companies are the same. As such, our Health Checkpoints can be easily customized and ordered online, spotlighting core competencies in wellness detection, as well as digital capabilities for QR and branding. We’re just getting started.

Federico Bausone: The COVID-19 Pandemic has not been easy to navigate by any stretch of the imagination, but I am so proud of our team here at Multimedia Care working day-in and day-out to develop these essential solutions that will help so many people. Hand-held temperature readers are effective in the short-term, but by replacing this with a full-service solution that not only reads the temperature but allows guests to engage digitally – that is the future.
