In separate announcements, fully vaccinated shoppers can now visit Costco, Sam’s Club, Trader Joe’s, and Walmart without masks.

These statements follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s new guidance that allows Americans who have received their second Covid-19 vaccine shot to go outdoors without wearing masks. Such citizens don’t have to wear a mask or keep their distance indoors and outdoors except in certain circumstances such as visiting government offices, public transportation, and healthcare settings. The statement continued to say that people will have to adhere to local businesses and workplace mask guidance.

In view of that, Walmart executives encouraged its employees to get vaccinated. They said, “Vaccinated customers and members are welcome to shop without a mask,” but unvaccinated ones should wear masks when in the store.

Further, starting May 18, fully vaccinated employees can work without masks. But some employees have to wear masks for sanitation and health reasons.

Workers and shoppers in states and cities with stringent Covid-19 requirements will continue to follow these mandates whether they are fully vaccinated or not.

Similar guidelines were issued by Costco, where the company stated that “we will allow members and guests who are fully vaccinated to enter Costco without a face mask or face shield.” The letter posted on the company’s website continued to say, “Costco continues to recommend that all members and guests, especially those who are at higher risk, to wear a mask or shield.”

No shopper will be asked to provide proof of vaccination; instead, “we ask for members’ responsible and respectful cooperation with the revised policy,” says Costco.

Trader Joe’s shared a similar message when it announced, “we encourage customers to follow the guidance of health officials, including, as appropriate, CDC guidelines that advise customers who are fully vaccinated are not required to wear masks while shopping,”

However, the grocery chain will maintain its pandemic policies like employees’ wellness checks and social distancing inside its stores. Also, customers will not be required to provide proof of vaccination, and its employees must wear masks at all times.

Still, some retailers are yet to review their Covid-19 policies despite the CDC’s new masking guidelines. That means they still require their customers and employees to wear masks at all times. These are Walgreens, Kroger, Target, and CVS.
