Resilience in Times of Pandemic

We talked to Garrick Revels of Pro Crew Schedule about its construction management software and the effects of COVID-19.
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Garrick Revels: Currently, we are all doing fine. Covid-19 has affected my immediate family, and we had a long term employee pass due to the virus. It has been a very challenging time for our extended work family and us.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Pro Crew Schedule.
Garrick Revels: I joined the family construction business in 2001, and as we grew, it was apparent that day planners and online calendars wouldn’t suit our needs for much longer. We found a local programmer to custom write our first scheduling platform, and after 8-12 months, we had our scheduling system online and live. This was circa 2001-2002.
After 17 years of improvements, updates, upgrades, and overall changes, we decided to form Pro Crew Schedule and offer our platform to other subcontractors. With a major overhaul in 2018-2019 and our product went live in August 2019.
How does Pro Crew Schedule innovate?
Garrick Revels: Innovation is easy for Pro Crew Schedule. We listen and talk to our customers. Our construction company uses the platform daily, and with our customer recommendations, our real-world experience, we are always improving and developing new features that our customers want.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Garrick Revels: The human toll has been very challenging, but economics has been good. We were perfectly suited for the work from home movement that happened. Fortunately, Pro Crew Schedule is a fully remote company, so our work environment didn’t change much.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Garrick Revels: Luckily, we didn’t have to make difficult decisions concerning covid-19, but I did learn to move faster when you see challenges and opportunities.
How do you deal with stress and anxiety, how do you project yourself and Pro Crew Schedule in the future?
Garrick Revels: Dealing with stress and anxiety has been an ongoing challenge for me during the current pandemic. I have a few places I really enjoy visiting, and it gives me a reset, and getting back into the hobbies that I enjoyed has been a huge part of my stress management.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Garrick Revels: We have lots of competitors in the construction software industry. Our plan is the same, listen to our customers, and keep developing new features that are needed for the industry. In my option, one of the biggest advantages of being a startup is being able to develop and pivot quickly to what the costumes need.
Your final thoughts?
Garrick Revels: First and foremost, my heart goes out to everyone who has lost a loved one or friend during this pandemic. I truly hope this Covid-19 will make us a stronger community. We can start focusing on what that truly matters, and from a business perspective, this is a huge opportunity to redesign, rediscover, and, most importantly, reimage how business is conducted.
