We talked to Guilhermo Pinheiro de Queiroz of Biosolvit about its solutions in biotechnology that make the world better and he had the following to say about them:-

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?

Guilhermo Pinheiro de Queiroz: We’ve been doing well. Of course, we are upset about the news and the pandemic, but we’ve been trying to focus on keeping safe and healthy.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Biosolvit.

Guilhermo Pinheiro de Queiroz: Biosolvit has started as a “B Plan.” I was the CEO at TOTVS Rio Interior, a franchisee of TOTVS – an important IT company from Latin America. At the first moment, I tried to start a business to produce a heart of palm, an eatable product. When I saw that only 3% of a palm tree is used to produce the heart of palm, I saw a huge opportunity to start a new business. It was the beginning of Biosolvit.

How does Biosolvit innovate?

Guilhermo Pinheiro de Queiroz: We use discarded biomass to produce two lines of products. The first one, the Biogreen line, is focused on gardening at home. We produce natural pots for raising plants and substrates. The second line is the Bioblue, which focuses on solutions to remediate oil spill accidents and treat oil-contaminated water. The main product of this line is the Bioblue Natural Absorber, an oil absorber made from palm fibers discarded, which is the most efficient oil absorber in the world nowadays.

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?

Guilhermo Pinheiro de Queiroz: We decided to keep safe using this moment to get stronger. We have used this time to prepare our company, working very hard on structuring issues, and it made us more confident. Our business is growing 400% YoY, and we have no coronavirus cases in our company, which is a great victory for us. We decided not to take part in this crisis by taking care of our employees and reinforcing our business strategy.

Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?

Guilhermo Pinheiro de Queiroz: Yes! We decided to hire a driver to pick up every employee at home. It was a difficult choice because it’s costly, but our company kept running. Now we feel unstoppable, confident, and prepared to deal with difficulties, no matter what happens.

How do you deal with stress and anxiety? How do you project yourself and Biosolvit in the future?

Guilhermo Pinheiro de Queiroz: I think that the opposite of stress is organization. We have organized our company, and this is very powerful against stress. I see that our company is ready to face its challenges and I’m very hopeful about increasing very fast in the next years.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?

Guilhermo Pinheiro de Queiroz: We have large competitors around the world, such as Briggs, Okopur, Savesorb, and others, but we truly believe in our innovation capability. Keeping innovating is our plan!

Your final thoughts?

Guilhermo Pinheiro de Queiroz: Believe in your dreams! They will get you further every day!
