We Will Overcome! – Says Gustavo Falcão of 99Contratos
We talked to Gustavo Falcão of 99Contratos about document creation and he had the following to say:-
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Gustavo Falcão: Thanks for asking. We are tired but safe. All our team is working from home, in the home office regime. But the most important right now is that everyone is safe!
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded 99Contratos.
Gustavo Falcão: I am an Information Technology guy. All my former jobs were in IT. But in 2014, I faced a need to create a Legal Document for personal use. I was renting an apartment and needed to create the document for it. I got lost searching for it. Instead, the document was too expensive for regular people because lawyers created it, or it was too confusing with so many free forms on the internet. So I got really confused, and something in my mind told me that it was not supposed to be that way. Then I started to think of a way to help people create Legal Documents and make them understand what they are creating.
How does 99Contratos innovate?
Gustavo Falcão: We do offer real-time document creation for a really affordable price. Whenever our user selects an answer or makes a data input, the document is changed in real-time. We present them some guidance for most questions that are part of the document making that we do think may be hard for our users to understand.
And it’s really affordable. Comparing to dollars, our cheapest document is below $2.00, and our most expensive one is below $5.00. That way, we can provide customized legal documents for people that we’re unable to have them.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Gustavo Falcão: We are facing an impact on sales, and that is natural. Few people are doing business. It’s hard for us in the financial aspect of our business, but for sure, we will overcome this. Sales / Income we can recover later.
Some of our employees are facing fatigue in being home, as some of them now have to take care of their kids that are also homeschooling, clean their homes, and work. We talk to each of them to make sure we can adapt to that new reality, and also we decided to have a reduced work hours journey, keeping the salary the same. That way, we hope to relieve some of the fatigue that is new to a lot of us.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Gustavo Falcão: We are really thankful that we didn’t have to make any difficult choices. All our staff remain the same.
How do you deal with stress and anxiety?
Gustavo Falcão: Besides the reduced working hours that we did offer, we have at least 2 virtual happy hours. We try to talk to each other regularly, offer help even in simple tasks. We do know that right now, we are not in full capacity, physically and mentally. So we try our best to keep ourselves as a team.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Gustavo Falcão: We do have a few competitors in Brazil. The strongest one being wonder legal, a worldwide LegalTech platform. We do our best to provide our users with the best information that they, with online support by e-mail and WhatsApp, so we can give our users some confidence and help they need.
We are also constantly looking to improve our website performance, layout, and new ways to communicate with our users.
Your final thoughts?
Gustavo Falcão: We do believe that we are going to overcome this pandemic. And we hope that everyone stays taking care of themselves.
2020 was a difficult year, maybe 2021 will be harder, but we hope not. Let’s try to make this horrific time to learn about caring for each other.
Thanks!
