We talked to Heena Vinayak of KillerLaunch about finding dream startup jobs in India and this is what she had to say.

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?

Heena Vinayak: COVID-19 has affected everyone’s life, but I am more than grateful since I can spend more time with my daughter as I am now working from home. At the same time, we are all doing what we can do to maintain a work-life balance and keeping us safe from the novel coronavirus.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded KillerLaunch.

Heena Vinayak: When we first launched KillerLaunch, we focused on helping brands, startups, and business ventures find awesome domain names for their successful and killer launch.

However, earlier this year, we noticed that recruiters don’t look at a resume for more than 30 seconds. And many candidates get rejected only because of the layout biases. And that’s when we decided to turn KillerLaunch into a recruitment search portal. We want to make the best of those allotted 30 seconds and offer a clean and crisp overview of the candidates’ skills and increase their employment chances.

We offer extensive job profiles to close the gap between recruiters and job seekers as they can occasionally be more prone to appearance-based resume biases over skills. We founded KillerLaunch with an aim to neutralize such biases.

How does KillerLaunch innovate?

Heena Vinayak: At KillerLaunch, we are attempting to make India more reliant, and we are continually working towards making job hunting more accessible. Presently, we are focusing on providing work from home job opportunities across an array of industries for students and young professionals considering the current situation. The entire team of KillerLaunch is committed to promoting local business and talent while innovating to make job hunting more safe, reliant, and fruitful.

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?

Heena Vinayak: The ongoing pandemic has hit most sectors in India. We are also working hard to turn around the situation.

The first few months of the pandemic and the subsequent lockdown had made the employment rate fall drastically. It has made having a seamless platform like KillerLaunch that connects job seekers with recruiters even more prudent.

We are working hard to pave the way for Indians to contribute to nation-building, adopting our Prime Minister’s Vocal for Local push. We have taken a step towards it by making job hunting more accessible and more effortless.

Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?

Heena Vinayak: The most difficult choice I have to make is to find the right candidate for our team. I find filling an open position exciting since a new team member can bring new ideas and energy to the team. It can also be stressful at a time if I end up hiring the wrong person.

However, while working on KillerLaunch, I have learned that the best way to make the right hiring decision is to make upfront thinking based on our successful team members’ common traits. Now I have started to put together data with my intuition without any rush to make an educated decision.

While we are helping job seekers find plenty of opportunities, we are also helping companies find the right talent for their teams. We allow recruiters to list free jobs and internships to explore and submit their application with an easy filtering option. KillerLaunch aims to help both the job seekers and recruiters save on time and narrow down the best-suited candidates for the roles.

How do you deal with stress and anxiety?

Heena Vinayak: I believe that when we reflect on stress, we can see that it has been a part of our lives all along. I focus more on my reaction to situations rather than on pressure. It allows me to handle any difficult situation without becoming too stressed.

At the same time, I also personally enjoy a bit of stress since I like challenges. Having the right tools on hand and a backup plan is the best way I have found to stay grounded even in a difficult situation.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?

Heena Vinayak: Presently, our biggest competitor is Internshala, but it is limited as an internship search platform for students. Once he or she graduates, the student needs to make a shift to another platform. Whereas, we cater to the job requirements of both students and freshers. We are committed to staying with job seekers through every phase of their life.

Since KillerLaunch is new in the market, we have not gained much popularity yet. But we are here to serve as the perfect recruitment platform to fulfill all students, graduates, and young professionals’ employment needs.

We have designed our platforms to make internships and job hunting experience a piece of cake. We also allow our users to build their resumes in under 5 minutes by answering a few simple questions.

Your final thoughts?

Heena Vinayak: For a developing country like India, one of the challenges businesses face is the active recruitment of employees. Every industry requires productive members who can work efficiently.

There are times that applicants find the process too long with several steps and hurdles while filling the application. Recruiters also face similar issues while posting a job. For instance, the setup could be tedious and lengthy, and there is a limited possibility for customization.

I believe that the recruitment process is not only valuable for the candidates but recruiters as well. That’s why we have made the interface of KillerLaunch uncomplicated, easy to use, and user-friendly with zero distractive elements.
