We talked to Jacobus Fourie, founder of Blink Digital Consulting, about digital marketing, and this is what he said about it.
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Jacobus Fourie: My wife and I are blessed with two beautiful and amazing girls, and we are doing very well. Thank you. We have taken the last year and a bit with what has transpired worldwide, as I am sure most families have. It has been emotional and, at a time[BDC1], a financial rollercoaster, to say the least. As I am sure many others, it has forced us to pivot in our personal and professional lives. Due to initiatives here in Alberta, Canada, like BNI and Sabretec, both of which I am a member[BDC2], I was able to scale my business and grow during these toughest times.
Tell us about you, your career, and how you founded Blink Digital Consulting.
Jacobus Fourie: My educational background is Business Administration, Management, Human Resources & Entrepreneurship. I also studied LLB Law, and I articled at a law firm in South Africa between 2005 and 2008. I founded 5 companies in 2009, and I have sold 2 of these companies, and I am currently involved in various ways with the remaining three companies.
Of the companies I sold, I was most proud of Silver Line Staff Recruitment cc, and this was an event staffing company. I employed and trained over 300 waiters, bartenders, and cleaners, which I then supplied to premium hospitality suites at large sports stadiums throughout South Africa. This was my first venture, and I learned a lot about business, marketing, management, and sales through this business’s operations[BDC3]. I immigrated to Canada from South Africa, and I was the General Manager of a marketing agency here in Calgary, Alberta.
In 2019, I founded Blink Digital Consulting, and by joining BNI Optimum, I was able to integrate my business with trusted business owners and tap into their business networks. This was hugely influential in my business growth, and I can attribute 70% of my first-year growth to BNI. In the 2nd year of Blink Digital Consulting, I joined Sabretec, a local barter exchange network, and this move has allowed me to increase my business exponentially.
How does Blink Digital Consulting innovate?
Jacobus Fourie: We innovate by continuously researching trendsetting software solutions[BDC4] for digital marketing, testing, and implementing systems that we believe will provide our clients and us with an advantage. We have made this approach key to our digital marketing strategy, and we have a proven track record with many success stories. Our digital marketing approach, process, and management are based on this, and we won’t have it any other way.
How does the coronavirus pandemic affect your business finances?
Jacobus Fourie: I believe that I made two business discussions in years one and two that have been instrumental in our stability and growth. BNI and Sabretec established a network and credibility that are key elements to the success of any business.
Did you have to make difficult choices regarding human resources, and what are the lessons learned?
Jacobus Fourie: No, I am fortunate that this was not an area of concern to my business.
How did your customer relationship management evolve? Do you use any specific tools to be efficient?
Jacobus Fourie: We use our own CRM software and other systems for effective client relationships and funnel growth management. This ties into our ongoing research into software programs to better our own systems and ever-evolving marketing strategy.
Did you benefit from any government grants, and did that help keep your business afloat?
Jacobus Fourie: No, I did not require this for my business.
Your final thoughts?
Jacobus Fourie: I am blessed that I have built a business is arguably [BDC5] one of the toughest times the world has seen. This is not something I attribute to my own making, and I glorify Jesus for this. I am pleased with the growth I have seen over the past 21 months and with the prospects that are in the pipeline.
I know not all businesses are as fortunate, but that is exactly where Blink Digital Consulting and other digital marketing agencies can play a vital role in the stabilization and growth of those companies and be part of their growth and ongoing success stories.
