AppSealing Embraces Securing Mobile Apps with Its Robust Security Features

James Sungmin Ahn of AppSealing tells us about app protection services and Covid-19.
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
James Sungmin Ahn: We’re getting used to Covid-19 such as social distancing, wearing masks, video calls even with family members but also always trying to maintain relationships with colleagues, friends and family in distant places.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded AppSealing.
James Sungmin Ahn: I founded our company 20 years ago with security technology protecting contents and initiated interoperability standards regarding content security and resulted in a standard for the industry. I have been deeply involved in the content security and mobile security area.
How does AppSealing innovate?
James Sungmin Ahn: We’re innovating security technology that can be used without any coding or low coding to accelerate the employment with affordable pricing which cares for a small tier company to Enterprise-grade tiers both.
We keep innovating our security aiming for robust, easy, and fast to use, affordable, and transparent pricing so the customers are able to protect their business and end customers without spending too many resources on security matters.
How does the coronavirus pandemic affect your business finances?
James Sungmin Ahn: We’re very sorry that most of the businesses have been damaged and people died due to the Covid19. Our business customers are from OTT, video educational services, mobile games, Fintech, O2O services which actually got jumped up while Covid19 So currently we’re growing very fast and customers are from all around the world to our security as a service.
Did you have to make difficult choices regarding human resources, and what are the lessons learned?
James Sungmin Ahn: At the beginning of my business, I struggled to assess people’s performance by the result they made and give the compensation based on it. Sometimes it was a bit harsh to someone who tried hard but didn’t make good results, not due to their performance issues. So, I used to make wrong assessments on people and unmotivated people who have strong potentiality.
A few years later, I came to understand it and tried to define the mission statement of our company which is fundamentally about people, business, and any decision around it.
Core value: Integrity, people growth, respect, innovative
We exist to contribute to a better society and help those in need with our improved technologies and services.
This definition always advised me to look into the people not only by the performance but the potentiality they have and what the business is aiming to achieve.
Our people including me and our business are interacting with each other and customers based on this fundamental.
How did your customer relationship management evolve? Do you use any specific tools to be efficient?
James Sungmin Ahn: We do use CRM tool, tech. Support and corporate message tools to keep eyeing on any matters about our customers.
Did you benefit from any government grants, and did that help keep your business afloat?
James Sungmin Ahn: We have received many government grants and it helps our business but not that far.
Your final thoughts?
James Sungmin Ahn: Covid19 has been accelerating digital transformation for most of the businesses which have brought us more opportunities and task on how we are able to make better technology helping customers’ successful digital transformation. Understanding customers’ needs and their business are always our highest priority.
