Jan B Sagmo of Bergen Carbon Solutions AS Tells Us About Materials for the Future, Carbon-nanofibers and Nanotubes

We talked to Jan B Sagmo of Bergen Carbon Solutions AS about how they produce carbon nanofibers, using CO2 and Norwegian hydropower and here is what he said about it.

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?

Jan B Sagmo: We are doing fine thank you, it has been a bit busy when it comes to home school and so on, but we are happy that no one is sick in the family. And grateful.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Bergen Carbon Solutions AS.

Jan B Sagmo: The company was founded by my co-founder and I in 2016, after doing our degree in chemical engineering

How does Bergen Carbon Solutions AS innovate?

Jan B Sagmo: We are a company that works in the CC sphere Meaning that we produce Carbon-nanofibers and nanotubes from CO2, the product is 100X stronger than steel, lighter than plastic, and conducts electricity better than copper. Our material can be used in different applications like composite, batteries, cement, and conductors, and so on.

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business and how are you coping?

Jan B Sagmo: The most difficult thing about coronavirus is that we can’t travel and visit customers the way we want, it is more difficult getting new business without seeing people. But we are trying as best as possible.

Did you have to make difficult choices and what are the lessons learned?

Jan B Sagmo: We can’t control the future, and there is always important to plan for a rainy day, even if the sun is shining and everything seems super.

What specific tools, software, and management skills are you using to navigate this crisis?

Jan B Sagmo: In meetings, and talking to our employees we use teams and zoom.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?

Jan B Sagmo: Companies that make carbon-nanofibers, but important to know that they don’t do this from CO2. We stay in the game by producing our product cost-efficient and green.
