The World Around Us is Changing, Don’t Fight the Change, Innovate!

Jason K, Founder and CEO of NoCodeMinute on how to design and develop web apps without writing codes.
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Jason K: My wife and I both lost our regular jobs due to COVID-19. The work environment was unsafe for us, so we decided to stay home. We decided to do this even though it might have resulted in a monetary loss for us. Fortunately, we have been able to stay clear of COVID-19 by being extra vigilant at sanitizing groceries and deliveries and have been staying home as much as possible. Unfortunately, we have lost some friends due to COVID-19, but the pandemic has touched most people in one way or another. After losing our jobs, we decided that we would put all of our efforts into a side gig that we were already doing. If we would make enough to survive this way, then we would work from home. So that’s what we did; we founded NoCodeMinute.com.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded NoCodeMinute.
Jason K: I have been using no-code tools for a long time, always trying to find ways to solve problems without coding. I was using Microsoft Access, Excel, Numbers and all the different website builders out there. I was still looking for a solution to a problem, and that’s when I came across Bubble. It was so easy to get started with a login system and creating a database. It blew my mind! Finally, software that could solve my problem! In three months, I was able to create an MVP for my problem. Within months I had over 1,000 users, and my application was being translated into over 20 languages by the users themselves.
After learning how to build software myself, I started doing freelance work to build apps for other people. At one point, I was even working for an agency doing some no-code development work. I started doing one-on-one sessions to teach others how to build their own software. I became a no-code consultant, which was like coaching or tutoring. I enjoyed this so much that I decided to just focus on this. There was such a need for it that my business grew very quickly. Within 3 months, I was earning as much as I was at my other job. After 8 months, I was making more than 4x the amount I used to make. I was able to create an eLearning Hub so my clients could keep learning even between sessions or if they couldn’t afford a one-on-one session. This has an ever-growing database of videos and articles to help people build their own software for their businesses or hobbies.
How does NoCodeMinute innovate?
Jason K: We continue to add functionality to our site as well as our eLearning Hub by finding APIs that we can integrate with that can add value to our platform. One recent functionality was adding a way to resume where you left off in the videos and see a list of videos that you have watched already. This is similar to what we are all used to with Netflix and other similar platforms. Also, allowing new members to get a one-time-use link to receive a discount on a session through an API. We hope that this will help grows our platform and give added value to the eLearning Hub.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Jason K: Originally, my wife and I lost our jobs, so this moved us to have to think outside the box when it came to earning money from home. We were able to create our own business from this brief setback. For us, it just pushed us to do something we have wanted to do for years. It gave us the opportunity to do something new and become an entrepreneur like we have been wanting.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Jason K: The most difficult choice was deciding to make the switch from a job that was giving us a regular paycheck to not knowing where our income would be coming from next. We made a leap of faith, and it worked out for us very well. The blessings are accepted with great appreciation.
What specific tools, software and management skills are you using to navigate this crisis?
Jason K: The main tool we are leveraging is Bubble. This allowed us to build our eLearning Hub as well as many other projects. We also integrate with Stripe for our payments, Calendly for scheduling appointments, MailChimp for email campaigns.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Jason K: There are other coaches out there, but we plan to continue to grow our educational resources to make our platform the one-stop show for no-code education.
Your final thoughts?
Jason K: We strive to not let the pandemic get us down, but let us grow from it. The world is changing, and we must adapt to the ever-changing situation. We can’t get stuck in the past and the way we used to do things. We need to be flexible when it comes to how we live and earn money. If you have an idea for some software, book a session, and we can get you started on your No-Code Journey today!
