Javier Puebla Talentoo

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?

Javier Puebla: It’s been a difficult few months, but fortunately in health matters, we are all well, and we are perfectly fine. Thank you very much!

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Talentoo.

Javier Puebla: Talentoo emerged in Spain in 2016, after a trip to the USA where I discovered a model of personnel selection that did not exist in Spain until that moment.

In it, I discovered a way to help companies looking for personnel through a digital solution that connects them directly to a network of specialized recruiters, who are in charge of searching, filtering and uploading the best candidates.

With over 20 years’ experience in the HR sector, I saw a great business opportunity in Spain, and in 2016 I founded Talentoo, the innovative recruitment platform that would change the way recruitment is done. Thus, in January 2017, Talentoo was launched to the market.

How does Talentoo innovate?

Javier Puebla: This platform consists of a B2B model (compared to the usual B2C model) that connects companies that are looking for personnel (called Recruiters) and publishes their offers with selection professionals and specialized headhunters (called Recruiters), who search, filter and upload the CVs of the best candidates.

In addition, Recruiters pay nothing to publish and only pay if they incorporate a candidate, choosing the price over a minimum well below the market. This is the so-called model of success.

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?

Javier Puebla: Being a model that depends directly on the selection of candidates from a multitude of companies, we have found that many of these companies had to close or paralyze their processes and that for several months many of them stopped publishing offers.

We faced this by providing much more personalized service to the client, understanding and accompanying them through these complicated times, inviting them to try out teleworking in the majority of their positions and encouraging the hiring of technological profiles, which are so necessary in these times.

Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?

Javier Puebla: The most difficult decisions have always been about restructuring the team, having to make a greater effort and facing the work with new measures that will help us continue to grow. Fortunately, all these measures have served to bring the team together much more, and even now, we have expanded and internationalized the model by taking advantage of globalization.

How do you deal with stress and anxiety?

Javier Puebla: Running a startup is always a complicated job, but you have to know how to separate your work life from your personal life. Having time for yourself and your family and knowing how to disconnect is one of the keys to coping with the stress of the moment.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?

Javier Puebla: Talentoo’s competence is indirect, as the usual models are B2C, in which companies receive CV’s directly from candidates, while in our model it is a network of selection professionals who search, filter and interview the candidates before uploading them to the platform. For our part, we continue to offer optimal service and a product that improves day by day, to continue in the market with a unique model.

Your final thoughts?

Javier Puebla: First of all, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to do this interview and talk about Talentoo in this media. This is a complicated moment in which we all have to be more united than ever and help each other in every possible way. Thank you!
