We talked to Jesús Olmo Lopez, CEO of Yatepeino.com about Hairdressing and Beauty services at home and here is what he said about it.

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?

Jesús Olmo Lopez: Thank God we are all fine. I passed the COVID with few symptoms, and I am fine.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Yatepeino.com.

Jesús Olmo Lopez: I founded Yatepeino.com thanks to my personal and family experience since my mother had a hairdresser and spent all my childhood there. That helped me get interested in the sector, and after studying Computer Science degrees and working in a company with a similar business model, I decided to start and risk all my stability to carry this idea forward.

How does Yatepeino.com innovate?

Jesús Olmo Lopez: We create an online platform where clients can hire Hairdressing and Beauty services at home. For Professionals, it is a new way to carry out this profession outside of traditional beauty salons.

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?

Jesús Olmo Lopez: The Pandemic has been good for us in some aspects, especially at the beginning where in Spain the highest peak was in April, and that is when our turnover increased more than 400% in that single month. Our country made it possible to go out to perform Home Hairdressing service, and the demand increased for us.

Then we had a decline when we reopened hair salons and stopped investing in Google ADS.

Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?

Jesús Olmo Lopez: Yes, we have had to make difficult decisions, and some of them have caused us some problems, but it has effectively helped us learn.

What specific tools, software, and management skills are you using to navigate this crisis?

Jesús Olmo Lopez: We have our own CMS and the usual tools that we have been using for a long time to manage the business.

We have not changed anything, also because we do not have financial resources to invest in improvements.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?

Jesús Olmo Lopez: Currently, in Spain, we have some competitors such as URVAN, HOLAPEPA, TUTUPE, GOINGBEAUTY, and outside of Spain, we have companies such as GLAMSQUAD, URBAN.CO, PRETTLY, and more foreign companies that are involved in the Home Beauty business.

To stay in the game, we will try to get the FINANCING / INVESTMENT necessary to grow, improve the product, create Augmented Reality, and improve the user’s shopping experience, the professional’s work experience, and the quality of the services we provide to customers.

Your final thoughts?

Jesús Olmo Lopez: Currently, it is very difficult to undertake and even more so to gain investors’ confidence to grow and create a successful business. But you have to be constant and trust that you can achieve what you set out to do.
