INNOVATORS VS COVID 19
Jitu Bhaskar of Semidot Infotech Tells Us How to Stay Afloat in These Uncertain Times

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Jitu Bhaskar: We all are doing exceptionally well. Though times are really tough for everyone, we all are safe and together here, and I think that has been our biggest strength to stay strong in such an adverse situation.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Semidot Infotech.
Jitu Bhaskar: I have been into computer programming from childhood. I did my bachelor and master both in Computer Science. After that, I worked in London for a while, and there, I realized how inefficient the IT outsourcing market is, and believed there is a lot that can be done to improve customers experience and in turn drive business growth for entrepreneurs and small-scale businesses. I came back to India and connected with like-minded people to start the company with my vision.
How does your company innovate?
Jitu Bhaskar: Semidot Infotech is a web and mobile app development company, and as you know, there is always something new coming up in this field. We have a research and development team in our office, which is constantly working on bringing new technologies and innovations.
Also, we house some of the best mobile and web developers in the market who have immense experience of working in this field, and timely we arrange workshops for them to stay updated with what’s new going on in terms of technology and trends. It is very important for users to like what we create and if they do not connect with the web and mobile solutions created by our team, all our efforts will go in vain.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Jitu Bhaskar: This is such an unfortunate thing that has happened, and the whole world is being affected by it. Yes, we did lose some of our business, but with proper strategy and work from home culture, we retained the maximum what we can. We have created a business continuity plan that has helped us a lot. From moving to traditional ways, we shifted everything virtually, and that has worked really well.
I think we have a great team working with you, things automatically come to you, and you can cope with any situation. Our clients were happy that we were working even in the lockdown and delivered their projects in the estimated time. Though things were not easy for us to manage, and even they were patient enough to understand everything, and this is what made us sail through this tough time.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Jitu Bhaskar: Yes, being into this business for the past couple of years, I have learned to make difficult choices. I guess this is what business is, we have to make some tough decisions, but to keep the business running they are important.
We were to start with many new projects, but due to the COVID-19 crisis, we have to stop them. Some clients too backed off due to financial issues, but we gained some new ones too, so I guess you learn to rise when things like this happen.
This was one of a kind of situation which no one ever imagined, and in some way or the other, we all learned something. The most important lesson which this lockdown taught me was working as a team. I felt really fortunate to have a great team as they were the ones standing by my side and had faith in me. They believed in me and let me make the decisions. They were standing by my side as pillars, and their faith gave me the strength to assemble myself and start working, creating new strategies to make everything smooth and efficient.
How do you deal with stress and anxiety? How do you project yourself and your company in the future?
Jitu Bhaskar: To calm myself, I like to pursue my hobbies. I really help and like to meditate a lot. Also, my family is always there to support me in whatever I do, and this gives me immense happiness.
When things were normal before lockdown, we use to have fun games in the office every Friday, so that even my employees are happy and stress-free. I try to be as approachable as I can for my employees so that they can share all the concerns. We have a small suggestion box too, where employees can anonymously write down their suggestions or any complaints they have. This has really helped me in taking my company forward.
We are planning to expand our business more and want to be able to create the best in the industry solutions starting from a start-up to large scale businesses. As both types of businesses have different needs and budgets, so creating solutions based on the requirements is challenging.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Jitu Bhaskar: Yes, the IT sector is highly competitive. Many companies have been in this business for more years than us and have a strong client base. Every small or big company is our competition, but we know for a fact as long as we create something out-of-the-box which is loved by both our clients and their users, we have won.
And as far as staying in the game is concern, more than defeating someone we believe in working on ourselves. As long as my team and I are ready to learn and have that zeal to deliver something that can really connect with users, we are good to go. We are working on various new technologies and many new initiatives, which I know will help us grow.
Your final thoughts?
Jitu Bhaskar: I am really thankful to you guys for giving me this opportunity to share my story and thoughts with the world. My team and I have worked really hard to bring Semidot Infotech to this point and strive to continue working this way and create more smart software solutions in the coming years.
I hope my journey can really inspire or give strength to budding entrepreneurs who are hesitant of stepping in this world. When I started, I was never worried about my destination as I was confident that one day or the other I will reach there, but I was more focused on my journey. I wanted each step to count, and for me, everything paid off well.
