Jordi Vidiella Amposta of Opportumeety tells us about purpose-driven and community-based social networking.

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times? 

Jordi Vidiella Amposta: Super good! My father recovered super well.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Opportumeety.

Jordi Vidiella Amposta: I studied renewable energies, but I realized that to make a deep socioeconomically change, I had to do something else. That is why I swiped to do Anthropology. But after two years, I finally found my passion; social innovation. I got involved in an entrepreneurship program, since then, I haven’t stopped to learn about it. Now, I’m about to launch Opportumeety.

How does Opportumeety innovate? 

Jordi Vidiella Amposta: We have created a social networking platform to match people by communities, values, SDG and more in common. First, it is a high-quality community-based and purpose-driven networking matching platform where people can build relations for leisure, business, or socialization. We offer only 5 weekly matchings so that platform members can go deep in theses Opportumeeties.

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?

Jordi Vidiella Amposta: We have had to iterate. It was a social networking platform to match members face to face while travelling going to events… nothing of it separately could work now, haha.

Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?

Jordi Vidiella Amposta: Hard lessons, bootstrapping is a hard way. I won’t’ do it again, haha I mean bootstrapping, not innovate.

What specific tools, software and management skills are you using to navigate this crisis?

Jordi Vidiella Amposta: We already were working remotely from several parts around the world, so nothing changed in our work.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?

Jordi Vidiella Amposta: Any kind of networking platform; tinder, LinkedIn and so on. But we designed Opportumeety to allow collaborations with any kind of networking platform.

Jordi Vidiella Amposta: As a platform cooperative, Opportumeety is of its members, who can become partners at any time. Opportumeety wants to offer regenerative networking, connecting people to work towards a common goal; the common good.
