We talked Josh Joman of FlyGoal about real-time live score and he had the following to say about it.

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?

Josh Joman: We are all good during the Covid-19 pandemic. Thanks to God for protecting my family and myself. I hope everyone can get through it soon.

Tell us about you, your career, how you joined FlyGoal.

Josh Joman: In 2008, I graduated with an Information systems Bachelor’s Degree from Bina Nusantara University and immediately worked for one of the growing beauty equipment distributor companies. I was responsible for developing and expanding the business, both online and offline. After 5 years, I decided to start my own business according to my passion for Information Technology, Digital Marketing, and Search Engine Optimization.

In January 2019, I met an old friend while studying at Bina Nusantara University, Mr. Danny, who finally brought me to meet with Mr. Gerald, who is one of the founders of FlyGoal, where he shared his vision about FlyGoal.com and business opportunity, especially in Indonesia and this is where all had begun. In April 2019, we started the FlyGoal.com production phase. FlyGoal is a real-time live scores application and sports statistic data provider.

How does FlyGoal innovate?

Josh Joman: At first, we start FlyGoal only as a live scores application and using Third Party API services. We found that the Live Score website and apps are very identical to online gambling against the law and regulation in Indonesia. Although we are not committed to not intersecting with this sort of thing, it will still be difficult for us to be accepted in the Indonesian Market.

We have to make a breakthrough to change public opinion and be accepted in the Indonesian market. In this digital era, there is no better way than through online media. So we need to established and create a good partnership with Online Media. This is where we decide that we must develop something new that we can offer to Third-Party partners (online news media).

So in November 2019, we start to analyze, learn how to gather data, and mix it to get real-time data and new unique sports data. We create our own sports data and developed web API services, widgets, and plugins.

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?

Josh Joman: This Pandemic is affected by everyone and all business sectors. Especially for us as a startup. The Government regulation regarding work from home and anything else during the Covid-19 Pandemic peak is a disaster for us in 1 to 2 weeks after the regulation announcement. All our work plan exceeds far away from the deadline.

We learn to manage everything using project management system apps to monitoring and measure the effectiveness of performance. Currently, we adapt new normal social distancing work regulation and routine Covid-19 swab test for all our staff for free. Unimaginable that this simple thing makes the employees feel that they are valuable and knowing that company appreciating all their hard work. It’s creating a positive work environment and automatically improves work performance. I personally really appreciate our Founder Mr. Gerald and Mr. Robby.

Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?

Josh Joman: I think everyone in a managerial position deals with so many problems where they need to make choices or decisions. For me, every choice or decision we make has either a high or low impact risk. But we can reduce the risk possibility and make the best choices and decisions.

I have some point as a guide for myself before make any choices or decision :

 1. Gather information as much as you can that relates to your choices.

 2. Try to get an opinion from several people that experienced even is your employee.

 3. Before making any decisions, always choose the best choices for the company. But remember, the company is not the founder or co-founder or an important individual. Company definition is all things and every person on it.

How do you deal with stress and anxiety?

Josh Joman: Everyone in a managerial position is always dealing with stress and anxiety. Remember, we are lead, manage, and control many aspects. Stress and anxiety will have different effects on aspects like emotion, decisions, and many more. Never lift all things on your shoulder. Learn to give some minor responsibility to your employee, share your knowledge so everything will be easier.

In FlyGoal, we have 3 Co-Founder, who are Mr. Danny, Mr. Rezha, and Myself. Everyone has responsibility. But occasionally we always help each other.

Try to calm down and doing anything to make you relax, like praying or just take a cup of coffee. When you are stressed, there is a possibility of making mistakes.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?

Josh Joman: For Domestic Market (Indonesia), I think we are the first to provide Live Sports Data. But for the international market, there are so many Big and Giant Company like us.

First, we must break through and grab all possibilities in the domestic market. It’s impossible for us to compete with our competitors in the International market if we only act as followers and do the same thing as they did. Innovation to create something unique that makes us different.

For now, our priority is dealing and creating a good mutualism partnership with online media and developing a unique feature or product.

Your final thoughts?

Josh Joman: Always give the best and do something with totality. Never forget to Pray for everything.

Knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens. Always hear and never stop to learn. A durable and growing company is one that always innovates and adapts to market changes. All of these things can’t be realized if we stop to hear and learn.
