First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times? 

Juanjo de Hoyos: Fortunately, we are all okay. We all have been very careful during this situation, keeping our distance from our friends and family. It has been hard, but health is more important than socializing, and this is something that we can’t forget.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Sandwatch Studio.

Juanjo de Hoyos: Sandwatch Studio was founded in 2015 as an innovative startup focused on developing technological solutions for tourism and smart cities. After some years working on this business line, we decided to discontinue it and turn it into product design, which allows us to obtain the most of our creativity and disruptive ideas.

How does Sandwatch Studio innovate? 

Juanjo de Hoyos: As a product design studio, we apply innovation in most of our creations. We always try to make incremental innovations in our product lines, adapting them to new customer’s needs through the employment of new materials, expanding or adding functionalities…etc.

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?

Juanjo de Hoyos: Our e-commerce has been working as usual during this period. As we have developed our online store in advance, we haven’t experienced problems derived from selling through traditional channels. Of course, our figures haven’t been as good as expected this year, mainly because of the economic consequences that our target customers had suffered, but we are optimistic about 2021.

What specific tools, software, and management skills are helping you navigate the crisis?

Juanjo de Hoyos: Remote working and collaboration platforms have been critical for our success this year. As many other companies working from home is a challenge, but thanks to these tools, we have been able to work normally during this period.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?

Juanjo de Hoyos: The only way for us to stay in the game is to develop new and innovative products and, more importantly, to reinvent constantly in order to be closer to our customers.
