It was a Very Fruitful Year for Us

We talked to Julia Nesterets on how JetOctopus.com is a powerful Saas crawler and she had the following to say about it. 

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times? 

Julia Nesterets: Telling the truth, there were different times during this year. During the first lockdown, I was scared as a mother of two kids, But not for a long couple of months. Then I’ve learnt more about the real situation, and I completed the course about How to live a healthy life and make your organism the most resistive and relaxed. So, my family and I have adapted to a new way of life in terms of healthy habits, and we feel ok, not nervous. 

Btw I’ve got COVID this autumn but in a very light form. There was a small temperature only one day, and the rest of the symptoms were smooth symptoms. I had such a light incubation period because of my good immune system. SO, the main thing for now and forever is to change your lifestyle and get healthy habits, and everything will be ok.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded JetOctopus.com.

Julia Nesterets: I am CEO and co-founder of JetOctopus.com – crawler and log analyzer. My partner Serge Bezborodov and I are close friends for 9 years already. We used to work together and then created our first business. We are of different expertise, and it is very handy in business. Serge is a genius CTO and developer, and I am about strategy, marketing, sales, recruiting, motivating. It was jobagregator. Then we felt boring as all the processes were built and there was nothing more to innovate a lot, And then I visited a conference dedicated to Saas businesses. I guess it was in 2015. And I came back with the idea that I want Saas business. But there was no idea about what it will be.

After some time, we had a situation in our jobagregator that the digital agency which was making SEO for us wasn’t capable of keeping increasing our organic traffic. During a year, we kept on thinking that something would change, but nothing happened. And we decided to start diving deeper into SEO ourselves. And we faced the need to crawl our 5mln pages website. We were given a one-time bill for this service for $2.5K, and we thought that it was too much.

From our own need and pain, JetOctopus was born. My partner Serge developed several modules for our own needs. Of course, it took much more than he planned, but at the end of the day, we realized that it is 60% of the core of a new Saas business and decided to finish it and pack it in a new business entity.

We’ve decreased the prices and made it very flexible. We’ve introduced separate modules – now our users can buy separately crawler, log analyzer, or Google Search Console module separately. All-inclusive package has 20% discount and is the most cost-effective and popular. Since March, there are no limits packages for those users who don’t like hitting the limits. Serge has invented it as he definitely hates limits. 

So, our users didn’t have to cut the budget and stay blind with SEO. They had the budget to stay with JetOctopus and overcome their competitors at the end of the day. 

Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?

Julia Nesterets: Frankly speaking, not really. We were researching the market all the time, analyzing client’s feedback, innovating with pricing policy to make it as flexible as possible. And it worked out.

How do you deal with stress and anxiety?

Julia Nesterets: Making all you can to stay healthy: physical exercises, water regime, healthy food, a lot of vegetables, no sugar, or decrease it to the minimum. And laugh a lot! 

Then to relax I usually do reading, good movie, going outside to the nature, dancing, singing, playing desk games,
