First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?

Kosta Popov: My family is doing well. We had to make adjustments, of course, just like everybody else, but life goes on, and so does work.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Cappasity

Kosta Popov: My path as the CEO of Cappasity began with the idea to create a comprehensive solution for the interactive 3D visualization of products in e-commerce. Today, after 7 years of development and 3 patents, we raised $4.4M, graduated from Plug and Play, Plug and Play Lafayette, LVMH Startups accelerator, and the Cappasity platform for the creation and integration of immersive content serves more than 30 million content views every month.

How does Cappasity innovate?

Kosta Popov: We concentrate on creating the best customer experience possible and always think outside the box. What started as a solution for e-commerce now also provides value for the automotive industry, tourism, art, education, and many other spheres. Recently we also introduced our brand new product, the 3DShot mobile app. The app allows anyone to instantly create, edit, and showcase 3D product images on websites, marketplaces, and social channels. Interactive 3D content drives higher engagement and provides detailed information about products online.

How did the coronavirus pandemic affect your business, and how are you coping?

Kosta Popov: Many areas in our lives have changed to better fit the new reality. The COVID-19 crisis just confirmed what many of us already knew — companies that ignore new trends cannot compete. The whole world is moving online, yet it doesn’t replicate the physical world convincingly enough. Users don’t trust it yet, and engagement is therefore still low.

At Cappasity, we provide solutions that bridge the gap between the physical and the digital.

Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?

Kosta Popov: First and foremost, I think it’s important to view any crisis as an opportunity. By introducing the 3DShot app, we made interactive 3D visualization available for anyone who owns a smartphone.

How do you deal with stress and anxiety? How do you project yourself and  Cappasity in the future?

Kosta Popov: We keep innovating and perfecting our solution. We are betting on immersive 3D/AR content to become a part of everyone’s lives, the stress, and anxiety of 2020 is just a stepping stone to getting where we wish to be.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?

Kosta Popov: We don’t have direct competitors. Due to high costs, some immersive technologies are not available to most brands. For example, if you choose to produce content using 3D modeling, you will have to pay prices starting at the $750 mark for every single digitized product.

To make 3D/AR technology affordable, we developed and patented the 3D View format. It allows you to showcase objects in 3D directly on the product page. Users choose whether they want to interact with a 3D View or in augmented reality (AR-holograms). Moreover, AR- holograms work in any browser on a mobile phone, no installation required.

Your final thoughts?

Kosta Popov: It’s important to treat the current situation as both a challenge and an opportunity. Stay safe, everyone!
