Luciano Amado Tells Us About Hubbers – a Platform that Innovated by Disintermediating the Process of Selling and Buying Residential Properties

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Luciano Amado: It’s been very challenging. With an elder mother and a 7-year child at home, we need to take extra care. Social distancing for them is sad, and we need to make sure they keep up with some activities, routine, fun, and joy. Nevertheless, we are able to keep safe and healthy so far.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Hubbers.
Luciano Amado: I have been working in Real Estate Market for 18 years, with extensive experience both in the primary (launches) and the previously owned markets. Began working with Real Estate Business Intelligence, was the Director of one of the Major Real Estate Companies in Brazil and then founded Bossa Nova in 2012, a Real Estate boutique specialized in luxury properties that subsequently joined with Banco Modal and KSM Realty to buy the rights to use “Sotheby’s International Realty” brand, the world’s leading luxury Real Estate brand, where I was president. With this experience, I realized there were some inefficiencies in this market and in the process of buying and selling properties, which I am trying to address with” Hubbers.
How does Hubbers innovate?
Luciano Amado: We have created a platform that allows buyers and sellers of residential properties to connect directly, eliminating the intermediary agent and the commission fee. As a consequence, the negotiation flows more smoothly and quickly. On the other hand, we support all the services that come with the sale of a house, such as legal and financing.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Luciano Amado: It did affect negatively initially as people were not interested in receiving visits to their homes.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Luciano Amado: We had to reduce our burn rate to meet the drop in revenues. We dismissed part of the team and canceled investments in marketing. We learned that investments in marketing are key in our industry.
How do you deal with stress and anxiety?
Luciano Amado: I practice yoga and meditate every day.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Luciano Amado: There are no major competitors. We are in the process of raising funds from investors to allow us to resume and increase investments in marketing in order to gain scalability.
Your final thoughts?
Luciano Amado: We believe Hubbers solve the inefficiencies in the process of buying and selling properties and are ready to benefit from the huge market opportunities in Brazil.
