Lynn Wood IdeaSpies

Lynn Wood, founder of IdeaSpies tells us how the open innovation platform takes the hard work out of finding and sharing good ideas.

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?

Lynn Wood: All fine. I’m very lucky to have a supportive husband who encourages my passion for ideas. Plus- Daughter in London studying for an MBA, about to start an internship, and Son in Sydney working with a top international law firm. One of our family members had COVID19 early in the pandemic and has very fortunately recovered.

Tell us about you, your career, and how you founded IdeaSpies.

Lynn Wood: My interest in innovation started early in my career. I was in the startup team for American Express Cards in Australia and NZ as well as later in HK. I was also part of the teams that established the first international property fund in Australia, one of the first wholesale property funds, and a startup funds management group.

I’ve served on many boards, including as Chair. I was one of the first three women in Australia to be on the board of a listed organization and one of the first to adopt a portfolio career as a consultant, board member, mentor, and entrepreneur. IdeaSpies was born on a trip to Canada in 2015 when a guide said “Promote what you love, rather than bash what you hate”.

How does IdeaSpies innovate

Lynn Wood: We share ideas that do good. With so much misinformation available, it’s getting harder (and more time-consuming) to sift through the rubble of daily content. But the right ideas and stories have the power to change our world for the better – if we know where to look for them. IdeaSpies takes the hard work out of finding and sharing good ideas.

We’re an open innovation platform for clever ideas, new discoveries, and original thinkers. Featuring simply written posts of 100 words or less, our stories aim to expand the mind and spark the imagination of all readers. It’s about sharing what’s good for everybody. A place where people, industries, and governments can inspire action and shape their choices toward moving humanity forward in the right direction.

How does the coronavirus pandemic affect your business finances?

Lynn Wood: Not at all, we are not earning revenue yet.

Did you have to make difficult choices regarding human resources and what are the lessons learned?

Lynn Wood: All our people are volunteers apart from our developers. They are positive people with positive ideas, hence their interest in IdeaSpies. We’re always learning how to communicate better.

How did your customer relationship management evolve? Do you use any specific tools to be efficient?

Lynn Wood: We focus on simplicity. IdeaSpies appeals to curious people who appreciate it that we share ideas, simply explained that can be easily searched by category or keyword. About 4,000 ideas have already been posted by Idea Spies around the world.

Did you benefit from any government grants, and did that help keep your business afloat?

Lynn Wood: No, unfortunately.

Your final thoughts?

Lynn Wood: We are paying it forward and appreciate your support! You are welcome to join us.
