Maciej Markowski, Co-Founder & Chief Revenue Officer at spaceOS tells us how this operating system offers safe, flexible, and human-centric workspaces.
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Maciej Markowski: We’re good – by a miracle, no one from my closest family got sick.
Looking for a new apartment during C-19 was a lot of fun, of course, but many had it way harder!
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded spaceOS.
Maciej Markowski: I’ve spent most of my career making sure people can do their best work when coming to the office. First in Human Resources at Danone, Coca-Cola, and then in Workplace Strategy at AECOM, CBRE, and JLL.
Prior to co-founding spaceOS, I was a Partner and Head of Workplace Strategy CEE at Cushman & Wakefield.
spaceOS – the operating system for workspaces – was found by Marley Fabisiewicz, and I joined him at an early stage. It was very clear to me that the entire real estate industry needs a platform to improve how it connects to tenants, improves service level, and finally, to have data on people’s preferences and behaviors in buildings.
How does spaceOS innovate?
Maciej Markowski: We brought a huge change to the Commercial Real Estate industry, helping them change from B2B to B2B2C business, streamlining their operations, and enabling more flexibility into how space is leased.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Maciej Markowski: A lot of the deployments got delayed, but at the same time, the industry realized they need to heavily digitize.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Maciej Markowski: Some of our coworking/flexspace clients struggled. It was hard to decide who to let go of, who to provide discounts to, and how to deal with landlords having empty buildings.
What specific tools, software, and management skills are you using to navigate this crisis?
Maciej Markowski: We are hardcore, power Slack and Zoom users.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Maciej Markowski: We have a couple of competitors like HqO, Lane, or Equiem. The industry is massive, and we’re the only solution with properly open API and covering flex, asset managers, and corporates directly.
Your final thoughts?
Maciej Markowski: The world needs flexibility, safety, and great services at work.
