First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times? 

Marat Basyrov: Thank god, our families haven’t been affected directly by COVID-19. However, I’m sure, as many of us, we have been affected by the illnesses or deaths of our friends, co-workers, business partners, and so on. My wife and my parents are feeling great.

In Australia, I believe, we have coped with Coronavirus better than in most of the other parts of the world. We had a lockdown of the 4th stage in Melbourne, but finally, everyone is free from the mask.

Tell us about you, your career, how you joined Intelligent Profit Solutions.

Marat Basyrov: Well, I came from a financial and investment background. Before that, I worked in a Biotechnology company and ran various projects that went deep into my role. I have completed the CPA and undertook some project management-related subjects to support my position in the company.

In 2011 I decided to move into IT as being fascinated by what technology can bring to people and its effect on companies. I have always been interested in software and technology in general. My background in projects and management supported me.

In investment, I have always liked to dive deeper into other industries and select companies after performing deep research. That is how I have succeeded and became a millionaire at 26 years of age.

Intelligent Profit Solutions (former EdwayApps) has been established with offices in Sydney and Melbourne in 2011 to provide consultancy and software development services in IT. First, we have been serving the mobile app market and quickly became a solution designing company.

We take a concept or come up with one through structured research to identify a problem that exists on the market. The problem we identify must allow our clients (companies) to capitalize and improve their business operations, service provision in a suitable segment. Team management and process automation. We can work remotely or from home or office without losing efficiency.

Starting a development center in Russia in early 2019 that grew today to more than 70 people was a tremendous achievement. We had to find the right management, create a way to reduce staff rotation and their motivation to grow and improve skills at a group and personal level.

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?

Marat Basyrov: Being a technology company, we have been more prepared for conducting day-to-day business during COVID times. We have been well advanced with online work. Our procedures are clear that any of our employees can stay and work from home. This hasn’t changed during the COVID, except that it has become mandatory. We have been working from the office for a particular brainstorm discussion as it was more effective.

Since then, we have learned how to conduct such brainstorm meetings within our group as it wasn’t very clear in the beginning. Try and error – always work.

Clear daily and weekly procedure are very common among software development groups – we have own, and they have been established for years.

Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?

Marat Basyrov: Lots of mistakes and challenges have been on the way. The last 2 years have been amazing in terms of when everything that I have been doing and all my learnings came to fruition.

How do you deal with stress and anxiety?

Marat Basyrov: I normally enjoy various sports. Taking rest is very important too. I also enjoy walking and swimming as part of a routine.
