We talked to Mario Martínez Jurado of VONZU about driving digitization in the urban distribution of goods and he had the following to say about it.
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Mario Martínez Jurado: Luckily, my family and I are all fine, thank you!
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded VONZU.
Mario Martínez Jurado: I co-founded VONZU Tech almost 3 years ago after being working in Amazon and with already 3 years of experience in the Logistics Sector. I have a bachelor’s in economics, and I have been expanding my background in Supply Chain Management since 2015.
How does VONZU innovate?
Mario Martínez Jurado: We create a delivery flow between retailers and logistics operators. We help them to be as competitive as Amazon is when running operations efficiently and sustainably.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Mario Martínez Jurado: The coronavirus pandemic showed up that what we were saying was right. There was, and there is a clear need for scalable and agile technologies in the whole logistics sector. There is still a lot to do in this field. Our software helps companies survive in a very competitive market by boosting their performance and adding value to the service they are offering. Today, with home deliveries growing exponentially, retailers need the proper systems not only to operate but also to ensure brand awareness and customer satisfaction. We were there at the right moment, but we need to see how the market behaves.
How do you deal with stress and anxiety?
Mario Martínez Jurado: Coffee, chocolate and doing a lot of sport.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Mario Martínez Jurado: There are some players in Europe, the Middle East, and North-America. Some of them offer hybrid solutions (software+operations), and some others are pure tech like us. However, our main competitive advantage is that we built our platform in such a way that our vision is now going from SaaS to PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service). We are creating a digital logistics ecosystem where everything happens.
