Meet Samantha-Jane Agbontaen, Founder of House Designer – An innovative Design Tech Platform disrupting the interior design industry

I am Samantha-jane Agbontaen, the Founder & CEO of House Designer. I’m an Interior designer, an entrepreneur and also a self-taught web developer.

Prior to interior design, I had a fashion business.  After several years within the fashion industry, I concluded that it just wasn’t the right fit for me with the rise of fast fashion.  I knew that I wanted to continue being an entrepreneur, but I wasn’t sure as to what my next move was going to be.

My friends and family have always commented on how stylish my home is and would often ask my advice on where to buy certain decor or how to design their own homes.  One day, I asked a friend if she would pay £150 for somebody to design a room in her house for her. She immediately answered yes that would be an excellent service that I would be happy to pay for.  I then decided to embark on an experiment for online interior design services. This was the beginning of House Designer.

I applied my web development skills to build the platform ; Launched in January 2020.  Today, House Designer is considered as the UK’s No1 platform for interior and garden design services.

How does your company innovate?

House Designer is an interior and garden design platform that’s on a mission to provide affordable design services for everyone regardless of your location. We are at the forefront of 3D technology. Our clients can visualise their homes/spaces before bringing their design to life. We use advanced 3D photorealistic rendering, VR and 4K animation to show clients exactly how their new space will look.

How did the coronavirus pandemic affect your business?

I had just launched House Designer two months prior to the pandemic and lockdown in the UK. The pandemic and lockdown were a very trying time for many businesses.  I try to see life as positively as possible; I used the time to continue to work on the platform and the business. Operating solely online was perfect for House Designer and the pandemic did not restrict its development.  This was a time when home design became a priority for many homeowners. Finding ways to improve their homes was a welcoming distraction from the world’s events and House Designer’s affordable services were available to everyone.

 What are the current trends in your industry, and how is it changing?

• Thanks to tv shows like BBC’s Interior Design Masters amongst others, People are now more aware of how much an interior designer can help them achieve their dream home.

Social media has influenced us with photos and videos of perfect looking homes.

• With the current UK cost of living crisis, many homeowners are choosing to improve thierexisitinghomes rather than moving to new home.

Who is the target audience of your company? 

House Designer targets homeowners, Landlords and property developers in the UK looking for affordable yet quality interior and garden design services.

Whilst Office Designer targets Entrepreneurs, startups and small business owners who might be moving out of home offices or getting their first office spaces. We help them design an engaging office space that’s beautiful and designed to increase productivity.

How do you see the future of your company? What are the next steps for the company?

Future goals for House Designer include the launch of the commercial platform Office Designer . We plan to continue to build the business with a strong team of designers.
