First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Michael Joly: Fine, thanks. We adhere to the best COVID prevention practices as recommended by the CDC.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded solu.
Michael Joly: I’m the Founder / CEO of solu. We have a mission to bring peace and healing to people through sound. My earliest childhood memories are sound memories, and I’ve been working in sound-for-consciousness for 30 years. Now is our time.
How does solu innovate?
Michael Joly: We innovate in the mental wellness space by creating pure sound-based mindfulness meditation aids. Our n.o.w. Tone Therapy System is a best-selling consumer hardware product that transcends the limitations of spoken-word meditation apps. Our users tell us that n.o.w. Tone Therapy is quick, easy, and effective––it gives them the benefits of a 30-minute meditation session in just 3 minutes. We’re about to release a version of Tone Therapy for the Amazon Alexa platform.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Michael Joly: Because we’re in the mental wellness space with solutions to the problems of stress, anxiety, and lack of focus, our business has sustained month-over-month revenue growth, we’ve added new prestige retail accounts, and we’ve crossed over into sustained profitability––all during the pandemic.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Michael Joly: No. We’re staying the course by continuing to be a heart-based company bringing peace and healing to people through pure sound during challenging times.
How do you deal with stress and anxiety? How do you project yourself and solu in the future?
Michael Joly: I start my day by listening to our n.o.w. Tone Therapy System and by doing free-write journaling. As to the future…the future will take care of itself as we take care of the present moment.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Michael Joly: We have a differentiated meditation solution that allows us to gain users that have abandoned spoken-word meditation apps like Calm, Headspace, Simple Habit, 10% Happier, etc., for various reasons. Spoken-word meditation apps have a lot of user churn, and we pick up a lot of those folks.
Your final thoughts?
Michael Joly: In these challenging times, it’s important for people to develop and sustain a regular mental wellness routine. We like to say: “Just Listen.” Deep, intentional, attentive listening to what is happening around you right now can be profoundly restorative and balancing. Try it. Just listen!
