A Brief Interview with Modestas Mankus, Founder of Our Culture

Modestas Mankus tells us how Our Culture is a home for art and culture.

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?

Modestas Mankus: We’re doing okay; my father had his first vaccination jab not long ago. We’re all just working, getting on fine. 

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Our Culture?

Modestas Mankus: I founded Our Culture originally in 2014, but not as a company, more of a side music promotional channel. I would 2016 is when Our Culture came to life for what it is now. The idea for it came about when I wanted to promote music and didn’t have a solid presence to do it anywhere. I wanted to create a small empire of my own, and I guess it’s all coming along nicely.

How does Our Culture innovate? 

Modestas Mankus: In many areas, we don’t. But I hope to change that in how we present content. More to come in 2022 with that.

How does the coronavirus pandemic affect your business finances?

Modestas Mankus: Weirdly, with the eCommerce companies flourishing, we managed to do well. Many new partners joined Our Culture, and that has helped a lot. We are doing our best to keep this growing and make Our Culture a name everyone knows in the years to come—however, all of this must be sustainable as we grow.

Did you have to make difficult choices regarding human resources, and what are the lessons learned?

Modestas Mankus: We all work remotely, so this didn’t change a thing. It feels weird to say, but remote working is not anymore the future, but the present. 

Did you benefit from any government grants, and did that help keep your business afloat?

Modestas Mankus: We did not take any grants or support from the government.
