We talked to Monish Shete of Elscint, the leading manufacturer of vibratory bowl feeders and automation parts feeders and here is what he said about it.

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?

Monish Shete: Now everything is back to normal, and our company is functioning at 125% of pre-Covid times

Tell us about you, your career, how you joined Elscint.

Monish Shete: Elscint was founded in 1983 by the late Mr. Suhas V. Shete, who was a doyen in the field of small part feeding. Today, I look after the company’s day to day running, and I have more than 25 years of experience. Elscint Automation has been serving the world’s industry by providing small part handling solutions using vibratory bowl feeders, linear feeders, small parts conveyor feeders, rotary or centrifugal feeders, etc.

How does Elscint innovate?

Monish Shete: We have a structure in place where every employee is encouraged to provide suggestions for new ideas. They are encouraged and rewarded for the same. Elscint also ensures that it introduces at least one new product every year.

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?

Monish Shete: The pandemic did affect us for 4 months as there was a lockdown for 2 months, and it took us an extra 2 months to recover and get back to normal. Now, we are back to normal.

Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?

Monish Shete: Yes, employees who were unwilling to rejoin immediately after the lockdown ended were asked to quit and new employees recruited.

What specific tools, software, and management skills are you using to navigate this crisis?

Monish Shete: Being cool-headed and fast decision making helped us navigate the crises.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?

Monish Shete: There are many competitors all over the world. We try to innovate in our products and processes to stay ahead in the game.

Your final thoughts?

Monish Shete: Any crisis is helpful for providing an opportunity to innovate
