First of all, how are you and your Family doing in these COVID-19 Times?
Oleksandr Tkach: Thanks, I’m doing fine. Haven’t been infected (yet?) as well as anyone around me.
Tell us about you, your Career, how you Founded or Joined Tribuna.com
Oleksandr Tkach: I joined the sports media industry over a decade ago. I started as a junior newsroom editor and after a long career spell in journalism, I moved to media management. Since 2017, I’ve been in charge of Tribuna.com, the project aimed at football fans across the globe.
How does Tribuna.com Innovate?
Oleksandr Tkach: We reinvent the way football fans from around the world communicate, share their opinion and discuss whatever they want to discuss. Our aim is to build a range of global, cross-platform tools where each fan can pick one or several for himself.
How the Coronavirus Pandemic affects your Business and how are you Coping?
Oleksandr Tkach: In the worst months, we’ve seen our readership and programmatic revenues drop about twice. It’s been recovering steadily, considering that sports events are back. But still not as fast as it had plunged.
Did you have to make Difficult Choices, and what are the Lessons Learned?
Oleksandr Tkach: We have used these times of the pandemic and ‘eventlessness’ to reflect upon ourselves and take a ‘helicopter view’ over our routine activities and the way we see ourselves. It turned out that we have been overlooking a lot of important things and, at the same time, spending too much effort on minor stuff. The main lesson we learned is, ‘remember to not get distracted by the routine from the big goals and ambitious plans you’ve set.’
How do you deal with Stress and Anxiety? How do you Project yourself, and Tribuna.com in the Future?
Oleksandr Tkach: Our anxiety now (as well as my own) comes mostly from what we’ve discovered about ourselves thanks to the pandemic rather than the pandemic itself or its outcomes. The only way of dealing with it is to spend enough time reflecting calmly on what the situation actually is and what can be done. It’s a bit harder than to panic silently, avoiding these tough questions, but as soon as you get to this point, you know there’s nothing inevitable or unchangeable.
Who are your Competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the Game?
Oleksandr Tkach: We see Twitter, Reddit and WhatsApp as our main competitors for the fans’ attention when it comes to ‘I want to know what my fellow fans think and have my say.’
Your Final Thoughts
Oleksandr Tkach: Take care!
