We talked to Oz Rao of Paradox on how to offer an extensive range of video production services from script to screen and this is what he had to say.
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Oz Rao: We are all going through the same storm. Yes, it’s been challenging, but at the same time, it has made us all grow.
Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Paradox.
Oz Rao: Paradox was founded in 2007 in Pakistan due to my passion for Video Production. We expanded to Malaysia in 2012, and now we are providing our services in Singapore, Brazil, and the USA.
How does Paradox innovate?
Oz Rao: Every three months, we revisit annual plans and update them as per the new tech and innovation. That way, we stay on top of things and keep expanding gradually. Ahh, also, we are always open to suggestions, no matter from where it comes.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Oz Rao: Yes, it has. We lost a lot of projects we were working on for over 4-5 months. Some cancel while others postpone. Initially, the projects wholly dried out, but we used this time to work out more animation offers for our clients, and that helped, and things are much better. We are grateful. We managed to overcome the pandemic by diving more into animation and reaching out to global markets.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Oz Rao: For us, the main problem was that there were no new projects. We are grateful we had already transited to a virtual model 4+ years back, so working and managing the team and cutting unnecessary costs that don’t add value to the projects were not there. Nor were superfluous costs of the office etc. So, we feel we were kind of ready.
How do you deal with stress and anxiety?
Oz Rao: Music, Dancing, and long drives outside the city.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Oz Rao: We don’t have any competitors. We give our best for each project pitch, and the rest we leave it to the Universe. As for staying in the game, well, we keep working, evolving, and doing what we do best – making videos.
Your final thoughts?
Oz Rao: We feel we are so grateful to the Universe for taking care of us during this difficult time. We are deeply affected by the losses of people, people who cannot pay their rent and put food on their table.
In terms of work, we should always be open to change and growth and be ready for anything the Universe will throw towards us. Be humble, Be honest and Be hardworking, and the rest will follow.
