How Ping He uses 48hourslogo.com to create custom logo designs for small businesses in just 48 hours.

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?

Ping He: I’m a father of 7 years old twin boys. We now live in Shanghai, China. I remember when the virus first broke out, we were in Hainan island for Chinese New Year. We ended up staying in Hainan until May of 2020 because the whole country was in lockdown and we were not able to return home. But beginning in 2021, kids returned to school, and things are slowly returning back to normal.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded 48hourslogo.com.

Ping He: I always wanted to start my own online business, and creating a logo is usually the first step. After a number of failed business attempts, I accidentally became an expert in logo design. I got the idea of building a logo design website where small businesses can get a custom logo design done in just 48 hours. That’s when 48hourslogo.com was born.

How does 48hourslogo.com innovate?

Ping He: Because of the marketplace nature of the website, we had this chick and egg problem when we first started out. So, in the beginning, I created lots of “fake” design projects but with real prizes in order to attract designers to join our platform. With so many prizes and a few designers, the words spread quickly and soon, we had more than 100 designers registered on our platform.

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?

Ping He: When the coronavirus pandemic first broke out, our business took a nosedive. I remember the number of new projects on the platform went down by as much as 70%. However, I was extremely confident about the economy and small business in general when I saw how quickly our business has recovered since. Right now, our business has recovered to about 90%, and we believe we can start growing again for 2021.

Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?

Ping He: Because of the overall business environment, we had to cut some of our projects. Instead of cutting our team members, we kept everyone on board but on a 60% work capacity. We are so glad that as the economy recovers, we will have our full team and ready to rock again.

What specific tools, software and management skills are you using to navigate this crisis?

Ping He: Our business uses Google Suite software. We use Gmail, Google Docs and calendar to enable our team members to work remotely.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?

Ping He: Online logo design is a highly competitive market. There are new competitors popping up every single day. We stay in the game by taking care of both our customers and our designers. We are constantly improving our design process and our software to ensure a smooth experience for our users.

Your final thoughts?

Ping He: Building a business takes time. I think patience is what every successful entrepreneur should have. Patience and perseverance allow small business owners and entrepreneurs to get past the difficult situations such as the coronavirus pandemic and thrive again.
