We talked to Prahilad Mittal of HOMVERY on how they provide services for all household appliances and here is what he said about it.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded HOMVERY.

Prahilad Mittal: “Once I observed that whenever my father calls the electrician, he comes immediately, but when my mother calls the same electrician, he never shows up.

So I tried finding out the reason for the same and I got to know that my father never bargains with the technician and mother bargains with them.

Then this thought came to my mind to solve this.

How does HOMVERY innovate?

Prahilad Mittal: In Homvery, We provide home maintenance services like Electrician, Plumber, AC Repair, etc., in tier 2 and 3 cities of Odisha. We are currently operational in 6 locations, i.e., Sambalpur, Burla, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Jharsuguda, and Rourkela.

Our team has been awarded by Honorable Shri Naveen Pattnaik, CM of Odisha, during Startup India Odisha Yatra in 2017.

“Initially, we started HOMVERY in Burla on a pilot run basis with just having Rs 2000 saved from our pocket money with having other plans to manage the operational costs, but things didn’t turn out as we expected, but we managed with that Rs 2000,” says Rajat.

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?

Prahilad Mittal: One of the biggest hurdles that most of the businesses faced is Covid 19. When 1st Lockdown was declared, we also had gone blank for what to do next like all other business owners. And we also faced the same. But we acted proactively to overcome that, and instead of getting affected, we got benefitted. Our revenue increased by 2.5 times what we had before the corona period. Some of our services took 6 fold jumps while some services got affected like wedding planner etc. During the 1st lockdown, when people were thinking about how to survive, our cofounders Rajat Kar and Ritesh Mittal spend the whole day in the Municipality office to get permission to operate under Essential Services. We could have also halted our services and kept crying that we got affected by Lockdown like many others. But we chose to act and got the result also.

During the lockdown, when many businesses were shutting their shop, we expanded to Bhubaneswar, i.e., the Capital city of Odisha.

All our experts were instructed to take proper precautions for Covid 19, and special video conferencing sessions were conducted with Doctors to make them aware of “What to Do and What Not to Do.”

Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?

Prahilad Mittal: In life, you will make many decisions, some of them will be right, and some will act as learning for you.

There is no wrong decision; there is only lessons.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?

Prahilad Mittal: The Technicians/Experts not joining us are our biggest competitors, and making your competitor your partner is the best strategy ever.

Your final thoughts?

Prahilad Mittal: When people start saying “CALL HOMVERY” instead of saying “CALL ELECTRICIAN” whenever they need home maintenance services, that is the kind of impact we wanna create in the coming 5 years.
