We talked to Puneet Dutta about Attaware’s cutlery made from grains and jaggery and he had the following to say.

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times? 

Puneet Dutta: Attaware family is perfectly fine.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded Attaware Cutlery.

Puneet Dutta: Used to be a Global technology Recruitment Expert. I was badly hurt by plastic pollution in 2013 while I saw a river in India flooded with Styrofoam/plastic cutlery; that was when the thought triggered in my mind to do something to eliminate plastic from our food chain. Researched for 6 years and founded the company called Attaware Biodegradable Private Limited in 2019. Attaware manufactures cutlery made from grains and jaggery.

How does Attaware Cutlery innovate? 

Puneet Dutta: We have an R&D unit that works closely with farmers, food scientists, environmentalists, food lovers to add more value to our products.

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?

Puneet Dutta: It has been good and bad both; since we are an awareness-based product, we shifted our focus more towards digital marketing since people spent more time on Social media; we managed to get more customers who ordered small quantities as samples and ready to take larger quantities during the post-covid-19 time. We Managed to secure future business with some sustainable sales in the present.

Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?

Puneet Dutta: Yes, made some difficult choices regarding managing our employees and Learned how to handle unexpected situations during covid-19 with a lot of stop and start.

How do you deal with stress and anxiety?

Puneet Dutta: Time Management is the key to deal with both; the whole team shifted focus towards more branding, content creation, and social media management.

For example, during nonproductive days of covid-19, we decided to shoot a video series of employees to showcase our business’s social impact—this created positivity in society and business both.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game? 

Puneet Dutta: we are at 96% monopoly as of now, have some great products like Edible bottles in the pipeline for next year, which would be a game-changer.
