Rachel Charlupski The Babysitting Company

First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?

Rachel Charlupski: Despite the circumstances, we cannot complain. Everyone is healthy, minus the surprise emergency back surgery I had last week. So we are thankful.

Tell us about you, your career, how you founded The Babysitting Company

Rachel Charlupski: I always babysat while I was in high school and growing up I wanted to continue doing it in college, I realized very soon that this was a business opportunity and ran with it.

How does The Babysitting Company innovate?

Rachel Charlupski: We are constantly evolving and changing. Through recessions, natural disasters (hurricanes, etc.), you always have to adapt.

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?

Rachel Charlupski: It has affected the business as it was, but it is allowing us to grow, offer new services and expand on the services that we already had.

Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?

Rachel Charlupski: Yes, we had to cut salaries and staff to survive. It was hard, that was the hardest thing.

How do you deal with stress and anxiety, how do you project yourself and The Babysitting Company in the future?

Rachel Charlupski: Whatever I need to relax. It may not always be the same thing, but walks have been very helpful. I am staying on top of the to-do list and not letting things get too out of control.

Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?

Rachel Charlupski: We do not have competition. We are the highest insured private child care agency, and we are the only company that provides clear drug tests and background checks. So right now, with everyone home our only competition is family and friends and free content on YouTube etc.

Your final thoughts?

Rachel Charlupski: We have learned to not take anything for granted.
