We talked to Rajan Sharma of Sample Junction on how to support clients in gathering on potential customers and aid in business decisionmaking and this is what he had to say.
First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Rajan Sharma: Since we are operating our business in a high-risk metropolitan- Delhi, so Sample Junction is required to have a High Risk COVID Safe Plan. Unlike every Victorian business, Sample junction has also implemented COVID Safe Plan for employees and their family as below:
- Ensure that any workers that can work from home are able to do so.
- If any worker is unwell, send them home and ask them to be tested. They must stay home until they have their negative result. Support like MedicalInsurance, providing Laptop and other IT Infrastructure is also available for workers who need to self-isolate or quarantine.
- Report any positive cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) to the Department of Health
- Regular cleaning of office and shared spaces.
- Undertake risk assessments for cleaning and the potential closure of your workplace in certain situations.

How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Rajan Sharma: The effects of COVID-19 are having a significant impact on Survey sector also affecting commuting of staff, disrupting the IT services, poor business flows, maintenance of staff and their benefits. Positively, this disruption has caused an acceleration of WFH (Work from Home) Culture, and a rapid focus on evaluating and implementation of Technical Landscape for business operation and Management of various risks like Information, Business and Financial risk.Also, wecan hire more experienced and quality staff during this period to accelerate our Innovation processes and Business cycle. In fact, we are able to leverage this opportunity for business growth and Innovation structure. We are proud to say that there were no layoffs, no salary deduction and more importantly, we continue to hire more and more staff during this period.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Rajan Sharma: Sudden change in the working environment from office to WFH(Work FromHome) sets many triggers on Technology landscape, HR Practices and training of staff accordingly and Operation processes. Motivation to staff has emerge as most significant challenges to cope with the business and train them remotely specially to newly hired staff was other significant challenge that we experienced during Covid-19 period.
How do you deal with stress and anxiety, how do you project yourself and Sample Junction in the future?
Rajan Sharma: Take care of yourself and your family is our mantra to deal with stress and anxiety. We are family friendly company. Our HR processes are flexible that suits to staff and their family too. We work 24X7X365 days due to our national and international business scenario. We design shift roster accordingly that suits to staff and family too.
We are a start-up fast growing company with national and International business challenges. Our suppliers and customers are across the world.Currently, we are set to supply Sample and Survey Programming services to our customers according to the qualifying criterion and Geo-Location, they defined. We are planning to set ourselvesglobally to serve the customer throughout the business chain starting from survey design to decision support system thru various Analytics Algorithms. Our sustainability structure stands on four pillars – Processes, Technology, Value system and Compliance.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Rajan Sharma: Frankly speaking, I do not consider any of our peers as our competitors. Many businesses complain about it, many learn from it, and many run away from it. But most do not know the true meaning of business competition, its natural and even important that makes us realize its actual strengths and weaknesses.
The biggest challenge in our industry is unorganized structure and varied business practices. The utmost challenge is to organize the way business happens across the industry.Our plan is to grow vertically thru organizing policies and processeswithin the organization frame work and horizontally thru organizing processes , technology ofstakeholders like customers, panelists and suppliers .

Rajan Sharma: As a start-up, we are the team of highly qualified and experienced professionals, Our Director( Strategy) – Mr. Sudhir Mittal, an alumni of IIT-R and IIM-A having more than 32 years of industrial experience at board level that set the direction of strategy for growth, organization’s goals, diversification, customer relation management and sustainability. We are targeting around 50% growth on year-to-year basis by continuous upgrade of Technical Landscape, Process re-engineering and regular training to operation and marketing team.
